Rastafarianism is a social movement, messianic-millenarian established in Jamaica around 1930, that combines elements of religious prophecy, specifically the idea of a black God and Messiah ; The Pan-Africanist philosophy of Marcus Garvey, Walter Rodney, and reggae music.

It was inspired by the independent, anti- colonial Christian tradition of the Ethiopian orthodox church.

Rastafarian Beliefs

– Rastafarianism is a religion based on social change, and reggae is the means of spreading these beliefs.

The membership has grown all over the world in all Reggae song lyrics deal with many subjects, including religion, love, sexuality, peace, relationships, poverty, injustice and other social and political issues. Reggae was also a means of upliftment to people without hope such as poor and enslaved.
