Bronwyn Conroy, founder of The Irish Beauty Professionals Association and the Principal of Ireland’s first International Beauty School, has been Ireland’s leading beauty consultant, lecturer, writer and teacher for over thirty years. Her school opened on the 1st of March 1972 and has been synonymous with excellence in beauty therapy training ever since. In 1972 external beauty therapy examinations were not available in Ireland. To fill this void Bronwyn Conroy introduced the ITEC, CIBTAC and CIDESCO certified examinations to Ireland. This had the dual effect of raising standards in the beauty industry in this country and giving those who achieved certification the freedom to practice overseas. Today Bronwyn's daughters, Sherna and Bronwyn, continue to run the school to the same standards that over the years have trained many leading beauty therapy professionals. Bronwyn Conroy Beauty School (NI) opened in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1996. The school and students are under the care and direction of the principal Geraldine McGuigan CIDESCO CIBTAC. Ms McGuigan has worked in the beauty industry for over 25 years as both a beauty therapist and tutor and continues to supervise the day to day running of her own beauty salon. Geraldine McGuigan has been an examiner for CIDESCO International since 2005 and is committed to excellence, with emphasis on maintaining the highest professional standards of training, within the beauty therapy industry.

Beauty Therapy Qualifications There are various routes to qualification in beauty therapy, however it is important to ensure that the course you choose leads to a recognised qualification which is accepted nationally and internationally, if applicants wish to work abroad or overseas. It is more usual to find that private beauty colleges offer the international beauty therapy examinations of CIDESCO and CIBTAC or ITEC. Whereas colleges of further education generally offer those of Edexcel, BTEC, SQA, C & G, and IHBC awards.

Is the worlds mayor International Beauty Therapy Association. Founded in 1946 with its head office in Zurich, Switzerland. There are over 160 CIDESCO schools around the world teaching to the internationally acclaimed CIDESCO standards leading to the highly recognised CIDESCO DIPLOMA. The CIDESCO diploma is the world’s most prestigious qualification in the field of Aesthetics and Beauty Therapy. It is the only qualification that is truly international represented and recognised in 33 countries. Employers value the CIDESCO qualification because it proves you have attained the very highest standard of expertise and professionalism in aesthetics and beauty therapy. The prestigious CIDESCO diploma is awarded to students who have passed both theory and practical examinations and given proof of having gained at least 600 hours work experience in a beauty salon or spa. Full Time Course

International CIBTAC /CIDESCO Day Course

Course Structure The Full Time CIDESCO / CIBTAC day course runs from October to July (10 months). Students begin their training with the CIBTAC beautician module. The examination for this module is in February. The CIBTAC Body Therapy and CIBTAC Electrical Epilation modules are covered after this. These examinations are held in May / June. Once the CIBTAC examinations have been completed, students begin the CIDESCO module of the course. The CIDESCO Examination is taken in July. Successful graduates will receive the CIBTAC and CIDESCO International qualifications plus the Bronwyn Conroy Beauty School Diploma. The CIBTAC modules and the subjects covered in each are as follows:

Written Examination This examination consists of a 1 hour 30 minutes multiple choice paper consisting of questions taken from all parts of the CIDESCO theoretical training programme. The pass mark for CIDESCO is 70%.

Project (Thesis) Students are required to write a project of at least 4000 words on a subject relevant to the study of beauty therapy. The purpose of this project is to give students the opportunity to use their knowledge, ability and creativity.

Workshops and Demonstrations As part of the CIDESCO course our students participate in practical demonstrations and workshops in a wide range of additional subjects in both beauty therapy and body therapy. Thermo Auricular Therapy (Hopi Ear Candling) Thermo Auricular Therapy (Hopi Ear Candling) is a treatment which dates back as far as biblical times and has been passed down by many generations by the American native Indians. This one day intensive course will further complement your Beauty Therapy training. Post Graduate CIDESCO Diploma Course This course provides part time students an excellent opportunity to further their studies, qualifications and career by attaining the prestigious CIDESCO Diploma. Course Requirements - Students must be qualified in Beautician and Body Therapy or Beautician and Massage, Anatomy and Physiology and have worked for three or more years in the beauty industry. Indian Head Massage Indian Head Massage is a treatment which dates back over a thousand years and is based on the old Ayurveda techniques practised in India. This two day workshop is ideal for the qualified body therapist or massage therapist to further complement their training. Indian Head Massage includes massage of the shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp, face and ears. It is a wonderfully relaxing therapy. The massage is safe, simple to learn and very effective without the need to undress or use oils. It can provide relief from aches and pains, stress symptoms and insomnia promote hair growth, soothe, comfort and rebalance energy flow which gives a deep sense of peace, calm and tranquillity.

Teaching Methods Bronwyn Conroy Beauty School (NI) incorporates the established methods of training within the beauty industry. At every opportunity instruction is complemented by practical demonstration. Lectures are delivered with the use of modern multimedia technology (slideshow presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint). Entrance Requirements Acceptance to enrol in any course at the Bronwyn Conroy Beauty School is at the sole discretion of the principal, Ms Geraldine McGuigan, however a minimum of 3 "GCSE's", preferably in English and a Science for the CIDESCO course or an equal standard of education is required. Maturity and experience can be an advantage. Minimum age of entry is 16 years. However applicants must be 17 years of age on taking the CIDESCO examination. There is no maximum age.
