There are several factors that can wear down the joints in the hands and wrists:

� The number of arthrosis cases in general has increased by more than 70% in the last 20 years in Spain and continues to do so �

« This pathology in the hands and wrist account for 35% of all workplace accidents »“Workplace accidents involving serious trauma due to tendon lesions, phalangeal fractures and hand and wrist dislocations are the most frequent cases seen”.

Background

Arthrosis in the hands is the second most common type of arthrosis among Spaniards after arthrosis in the knees. According to an EPISER study, 6% of the Spanish population suffers from it. It’s also a type of arthrosis that affects women more than men, especially after menopause.

5 Symptoms of Arthrosis in the Hands

> Joint pain.

> Stiffness.

> Swelling.

> Cracking.

> Deformation.

Age. The risk of suffering from arthrosis increases with age along with general ageing of the body.

Gender. It is more common in women.

Genetics. The likelihood of suffering from arthrosis in the thumb is higher when there is a family history of the disease.

Hormonal factors. For example, early menopause or hormonal imbalances.

Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle. Being overweight causes more wear and tear on the joints.

Mechanical factors. Having regularly performed manual work for years can increase the risk of suffering from rhizarthrosis, tendinitis and carpal tunnel syndrome.

It features a breathable, lightweight fabric base with a layer of cotton in contact with the skin providing greater comfort and enabling free movement of the fingers. The palmar splint is made from malleable aluminium and it features 2 plastic dorsal supports for effective bracing of the wrist according to the desired angle.Fitting is simple thanks to the dorsal elastic fabric and closure is fast by means of trimmable Velcro straps and anti-torsion buckles.
