Background• Randy Scott Slavin is a director and mainly

alternative photographer based out of New York City

• He is most well known for his surreal photos of 360 degree panoramic views and the ground breaking music videos that he has directed

• He has shot alternate perspective photos of skyscrapers, beaches, deserts, and woodland areas in major cities all over the United States, continually bringing new contemporary ideas to the photography spectrum

Photo #1

• This photo uses natural lighting as it is outside in a grassy area. It is such a different perspective that you cannot really tell where the light is coming from but it is assumed its coming from the center, or above the photographer. The main subject is the sky, which is in the center and because it is in the center, it does not follow rule of thirds but is instead more original than other types of photography. The composition of the photo is captivating, with the 360 degree view of the entire area making it confusing and awesome at the same time.

Photo #2

• This photo again uses natural lighting as it is outside at what looks like a beachside golf course and it appears to be either sunrise or sunset based on the fact that you can see light but not really see the sun. The main subject in the photo is the golf course, and even though the photo does not follow rule of thirds, it controls the eyes looking on the entire photo. The composition of the photo makes the ocean seem to surround most of the golf course like a peninsula of sorts. This photo really captured my attention and is a photo that not only makes you wonder but makes you think as well.

Photo #3

• This photo uses natural lighting as you can see the sun above the tops of the trees. This is a little bit different from his other photos because the circle is not dead center and not as defined as in most of his other photos. You could almost say that it follows rule of thirds but that is up for debate. The composition of the photo is almost symmetrical. The path stretches indefinitely and directly in the center, cutting it in half. I really am fond of the path because it is manmade and there appears to be no end to it, which is really interesting.

Photo #4

• This photo uses natural lighting and does not appear to follow rule of thirds. The picture is mostly symmetrical but there are a few small discrepancies that make it imperfect. Its difficult to tell what the main subject is, but for me its either the palm tree on the top middle or the border of the circle. The layers of the picture make it really interesting and pleasing to the eye. It really makes the viewer use their depth perception to try to decide where all the parts in the picture are in relation are to each other.

Photo #5

• This photo, interestingly enough, looks like it contains most of the colors in the visible light spectrum as the surrounding grassland has all the greens, light reds, and browns, and there is what looks to be a rainbow in the sky. Natural lighting was used, very wisely; there are no sunspots or flares at all. The main subject is the group of trees in the middle left hand side of the photo. It is amazing how he managed to create almost a full circle without fully completing it, which really adds body to the picture.

Photo #6

• This photo was taken probably at sunset, you can see the sun on the horizon, either going up or coming down. The timing of the picture allows to put awesome lighting on the tree tops and the water. The main subject of the picture is the body of water, which spliced together from all the pictures he took, looks like a giant tidal wave which is a great idea and executed fantastically. I believe that the photo follows rule of thirds because the majority of the water is not in the center of the photo. This is probably my favorite picture because of the creativity and how original the photo is.
