Product OverviewWild Activity Calendars™ will help you create unique and exciting calendarsfor your ministry and save time in the process. We’ve eliminated the hassleof laying out calendar grids and typing in all the days of the month by creatingeye-catching calendar layouts that are as easy to use as clip art. Simply insertthe calendar image into any page layout or word processing program just likeany other computer clip art. The calendar image serves as the “foundation”for the calendar document. Then add your events and specific informationusing text blocks and graphics that are layered on top of the calendar image.

Calendar Files ProvidedWe've provided two different design options for each month and three kindsof file formats for each calendar design. The files are all GIFs (GraphicInterchange Format) and are set up for black and white print, color print, andcolor web or presentation use. In addition, for every kind of file we've providedcalendar layouts that start on each day of the week. You just add the year inthe blank space provided and the calendar will never become outdated.

Finding the Calendar ImagesFind the calendar image needed by looking through pages 9-21 of this booklet.The images are grouped together in the following folders:

Creating the First CalendarBuilding the first calendar document will take the longest. However, once thefirst one is built with all the text boxes and graphics, the coming months willbe much easier to complete. Next months calendar image will replace thismonths calendar image and then you'll simply edit and reposition the textboxes to fit the new calendar image. (See the section for Creating the NextCalendar at the conclusion of these instructions for additional information.)

Step 1: Launch your favoritepage layout or wordprocessing program.Tip: Layout programs like Publisher, Illustrator,InDesign, FreeHand, andCorel Draw are usuallyeasier to use than wordprocessing type programs.

Step 2: Start a new blankdocument.

Step 3: Set the page layout to either the Landscape or Horizontal settingunder the Page Setup, Page Properties, or Document Setup menu.(Refer to your application manual for more details on how to turnthe page.)

Step 4: Adjust the document margins to the printers maximum print area.Most printers have a minimum margin between .25 - .50 inches.(Check your printer’s manual for details.)

Step 5: Insert, Place, or Import a calendar image into the document (justlike importing a large clip art image). The calendar image may haveto be sized or scaled down to fit the page. (Refer to your Applicationmanual for more detailed information on how to Insert, Place, orImport GIF images into your particular program.)



Step 6: Insert a text box on top of the calendar image. Position and size thetext box to fit within the appropriate day or week, and enter themeeting, event, or activity information. Add additional text boxes forclip art, or graphics in the same way. The original blank calendarimage serves as the "foundation" for all of the text boxes that will"layer" on top of the calendar image.Tip: Most applications can create Transparent Text Boxes, allowing the imagesbeneath and calendar grids to be seen through the text box. For example in Microsoftapplications - select the text box, then from the Format menu choose Text Box thenfrom under the Colors and Lines tab choose No Line and No Fill to make the textbox transparent.

Step 7: Once the first text box is created, simply duplicate or copy and pastethat text box to use on other dates and events in the calendar. Rememberto create a text box to add the current year in the blank areaprovided at the top of the calendar.

Step 8: When finished, Save and Print.

Creating the Next CalendarOnce the first calendar document is completed with all the text boxes andgraphics in place, it can then be used as a template to easily create futurecalendars that will already contain most of your regular weekly activities thatare repeated every month. Just follow these simple steps to quickly create anew calendar.

Step 1: Open the previous calendar document and then Save As with a newfile name as a new document (like a template). The newly Saved Asdocument will already have the text boxes and graphics in place thatcan be edited, replaced, or repositioned to fit the new calendar image.

Step 2: On the new Saved As document, select the calendar image that is inthe background behind the text boxes and any other graphics. Thensimply Insert, Place, or Import the new calendar image for the newmonth, replacing the old calendar image. (In some applications youmay have to delete the old calendar image first and then insert thenew image and Send to Back or Place Behind Text.)

Step 3: Once the new calendar image is in place, simply reposition the textboxes and graphics to fit the new calendar layout. Then edit or changethe information in the text boxes as needed for the new month. Addany new information or activities and the new calendar documentwill be done!



Creating a Three Month Calendar (for 11" x 17" paper):

Step 1: Create three separate calendardocuments.

Step 2: Print each calendar documentat 65%. If you are unfamiliarwith printing at reduced sizesyou may print the calendardocument at the normal sizeand then reduce it on aphotocopier to 65%.

Step 3: Cut out each month (the oldfashioned way) and pastethem up on a master 11" x17" piece of white paper.

Step 4: Type set the seasonal copyand year and paste thatheading above or beside thethree calendars on the master.Tip: Adding other clip art imagesthat correspond to the specific seasonwill give the master some extra spice.

Step 5: Use the finished master to make photocopies.Tip: Try photocopying on bright colored paper to draw more attention to yourcalendar layouts.



Trouble Shooting Questions:• Microsoft Word does not display the calendar images correctly on screen.

What’s happening?Microsoft has confirmed a bug with their GIF Importer in some versionsof Word when attempting to import very large GIF images. The Wild ActivityCalendar images are large so they can be printed up to 47 inches for use asgiant wall calendars.

Possible Solutions for effected versions of Word:A) Microsoft has a possible work around that attempts to force their GIFimporter to refresh GIF images correctly.

Right click on the inserted GIF image (calendar) and select Format Picture....In the Format Picture dialog box, click on the Size tab at the top of thedialog box. Next, uncheck the Lock aspect ratio button, then enter "15%"in both the height and width fields and select OK. This should force Wordto refresh the image and get the full calendar image on your page. Then toresize the calendar image, just grab one of the corner ‘handle bars’, holddown the ‘shift’ key, and drag to increase it's size to fill the page with thenew margins.

B) Use a different program other than Word such as Publisher, Illustrator,InDesign, FreeHand, or Corel Draw. If Word is the only program you haveand ‘Solution A’ above does not work for your particular version you mayreturn your Wild Activity Calendars for a full refund. Here at Church ArtWorks™ we really want to help the ministries we serve look their best, andmake their projects easier, not harder. We do not expect people to have toupgrade to the latest version of Word just to complete what should be asimple task.

• Why do images import so big on the screen?Some applications/programs will display GIF images very large on thescreen. The images can be scaled down in a couple of ways:

A) If the image is already placed on screen. Select the image, and move itaround until one of the corner ‘handle bars’ are visible. Then while holdingdown your ‘shift’ key (to maintain the proportions), click on the ‘handlebar’ and drag to resize the image.

B) If the image has not yet been placed. Some applications like FreeHand,Illustrator, PageMaker, InDesign, and Quark will allow a person to, ‘clickand drag’ an area to force the size of the inserted graphic.
