Pam Mattson retires after 25 years ♣ Pamela A. Mattson is retiring from Randolph Public Library on July 1 after 25 years of service. Pam was born in Los Angeles and raised in Weymouth, Massachusetts, near her grandmother’s home. She has an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts and a Library Science degree from Rutgers University. While living on Cape Cod, she and her late husband Keith researched more favorable locations to live (warmer weather and lower taxes!). It wasn’t long before they discovered Randolph County where they purchased a homestead near Seagrove with room to raise a grove of pecan trees. Her mother and sister soon followed, to be closer to Pam and Keith and to leave the cold, snowy weather behind! After working at Moore Gardner and in the Asheboro College Library, she began work in the Randolph Room, the local history and genealogy room of the Randolph County Public Library in 1984. During her 25 years with the library, she has also worked in the Reference Department, finally moving

to the position of Head Cataloger in the Technical Services Department in 1994, where she handles every book that is processed into the county system of the seven member libraries. Pam enjoys attending her local church, Center Cross Baptist, and helping with Bible study. Although she will miss all the wonderful people at the library, she hopes to horseback ride, train her new Blue Heeler puppy and do more cooking during her retirement. By the way, she makes a mean apple pie! The one request we made of her

was that she let the staff sample her finished products, especially the desserts! Best wishes Pam. We will miss you and your quirky sense of humor and style.

Pam Mattson shows off the clock she received from the Randolph County Board of Commissioners on retiring after 25 years of service.
