Girls Soccer The Lady Raider Soccer Team had an away match at Logan County on 9-18-12. The final score was 8-1 with a loss for our Lady Raiders, although Taylor Beals did score a goal. Senior forward and wing player, Darby Duncan, said “Even though we lost I’m proud of our girls, but we could have worked harder.”

Raider Soccer On 9-12-12, the Raider Soccer Team played Warren Central; the final score was 9-0 with a loss for our boys. Chris Norris had 15 saves and Aaron Conway had 5 saves. On 9-13-12, the boys faced Butler County and the final score was 2-1 with a win for East. On 9-15-12 they played Bowling Green High School and the final score was 9-0 with a loss for our boys; Chris Norris had 9 saves. On 9-18-12, the boys played Logan County and lost 6-2; Chris Norris had 20 saves and Steven Meyer and Wyatt Callison both scored a goal.

Volleyball The WEHS Volleyball team faced off multiple times this week. The first game on 9-13-12 was against South Warren and they lost by 3. The second game was against Russellville with a loss by 1.

Golf On the 18th the Raider and Lady Raider Golf Teams played Barren County. Nick Elkins lead with a 55, Destinee Martin followed close with a 62, Morgan Collins and Brain Hendrick tied with a 67, while Kaleb Chaffin came in with a 68. On 9-19-12 they faced off against Warren Central; Kaleb Chaffin led the boys with a 58, followed by Eli Sparks with a 61, and third place was Nick Elkins. The Lady Raider Golf Team was led by Chealsea Hendrick with a 58, followed by Destinee Martin with a 64, then Morgan Collins with a 72. The girls placed 5 out of 10 in the Grayson County Invitational Tournament and the boys placed 15 out of 18 at the Glasgow Invitational Tournament.

Football On 9-14-12, the WEHS Football team won against Metcalfe County, 47-6. Scoring all 47 points in the first half the defense only allowed 102 yards all night. Timothy Stockton led early with a 53 yard touchdown with a snag on the first play from the line of scrimmage. The offensive line was stout all night providing amazing protection and run blocks throughout the night. They are ready and focused on the upcoming game. Let’s go raiders!

Mikayla is a senior on the WEHS Volleyball Team. When asked about this

season Mikayla says “I think our season is going good” and follows with “We’ve gotten close as a team this

season and I love each of my teammates, we always know how to bring each other up in bad situations.” Mikayla says that she is glad that she came to East, and her friends make

it easy to love.

Mr. Poe

Mr. Poe is in his fifth year at Warren East. He decided to be a teacher in the early part of 2000. Ever since he began, his love for teaching has grown

substantially with each passing year. He

New Global Citizens New Global Citizens "Paint Your Soles" Event scheduled for Friday, September 28, to benefit The Sunshine House Charity, will be re-scheduled. Please follow news the Raider Scoop to learn the new date after Fall Break.

AFJROTC 16 cadets from Warren East High School's AFJROTC competed in their first Orienteering Competition at Rough River Dam State Park this past weekend. Over half of the Raider team finished in the Top 6 of their respective class. Our Jr Varsity finishers were competing in their first-ever orienteering competition. With a total of 90 participants, our cadets finished as follows:

• Warren East Guidance Office Website: Please visit the WEHS Guidance Office website. There you will

find a variety of helpful information and links. Also, be sure to click on and read each week’s edition of the Raider Record for scholarship and college visit information.

• Warren East High School Guidance Counselors:

• No Pass/No Drive Law:

o Kentucky law states that any 16 or 17 year old student’s permit or drivers license will be suspended for approximately 6 months if ANY of the following occurs:

§ Student has more than 8 absences (this includes out of schools suspension) within a semester (not year)

§ Student has not passed at least 5 or 7 classes that the student is enrolled in per semester (not year)

§ Student drops out of school

• Parent access to Infinite Campus: Parents will need three items in order to access the student portal. They are the student ID number, student date of birth, and the Infinite Campus website.

o Log on at https://infinitecampus.warren.kyschools.us/campus/portal/warren.jsp o User name will be the 10 digit student ID# o Password is the student’s first initial of their first name and first initial of their last name and your

Date of Birth in MMDDYY format. Example – ac080691

If you try to access your account more than three times using incorrect student information, you will be locked out of the IC system. You must email the following address to have your password reset. It may take up to 72 hours to process this request. The email address is: [email protected].

• PSAT/NMSQT

The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading, math and writing skills developed over many years, both in and out of school. You will not have to recall facts from literature, history, or science, or complete math formulas, as this test measures your reasoning and critical thinking skills. High scoring students qualify for National Merit Scholarship opportunities.

o Test Date: Wednesday, October 17 at Warren East High School

o Cost: $14 (Fee waivers are available to students on free/reduced lunch.) The deadline to pay for

the PSAT is September 27. Pay Mrs. Strickler (Make checks payable to Warren East High School) in the guidance office and receive a PSAT practice test. A list of high frequency PSAT words to study can be found at http://www.cabrinihigh.com/academics/psatwords.

• ACT The ACT is a standardized test that measures high school achievement and is used for college admission and scholarships.

Test Date: October 27 - (Must register for this online at www.actstudent.org/regist/index.html by September 21.) The ACT will also be administered several other times throughout the school year.

Cost: $35 (Fee waivers are available for students on free/reduced lunch. A total of two fee waivers may be used while in high school.) All juniors will take the ACT free of charge at Warren East High School on March 5, 2013.

• Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program: Applications for the 2013 Kentucky Governor’s Scholars

Program require that you have either an ACT score or a PSAT score. It is recommended that you take the October 17 PSAT and the October 27 ACT if you intend to apply for the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars

The 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

If you've made a difference through volunteering over the past year, you could win $1000 and a trip to Washington D.C. by applying for a Prudential Spirit of Community Award. TO APPLY: (1.) KRMCA/NRMCA 2012 High School Essay Contest

This essay contest was conceived to better educate young people about the concrete industry. It is open to students who will be between the ages of 16-18 at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school term. The winner of our state will win $1000 and will complete nationally for a $5000 scholarship. The rules are: (1.) An entry form must be included with all essys returned. That form, along with the essay must be forwareded to KRMCA by Thursday, November 1, 2012.

Frank Maier Scholarship

Barron Enterprises, Inc. is glad to announce a new $5000 scholarship opportunity for 2013, open to Juniors and Seniors in Warren County and Bowling Green High Schools. This essay competition will focus on selected historic buildings in Bowling Green, and their potential for adaptive reuse. Students will choose a building from among the five listed below, and propose in what way it might best serve commnity needs into the future.

Students must choose one of the following five buildings as the subject for their proposal on the adaptive re-use of a Bowling Green historical site:

University of Kentucky Academic Scholarship Program for Freshman Entering Fall 2013

If you would like to attend the University of Kentucky, there is an informational flyer in the guidance office that has automatic scholarships and competitive scholarships listed along with their requirements. Deadline for all automatic academic scholarships is March 1, 2013. Deadline for competitive academic scholarships is January 15, 2013. PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST APPLY AND BE ACCEPTED TO UK IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR ANY OF THE SCHOLARSHPS OFFERED ON THE INFORMATIONAL FLYER!

Horatio Alger Scholarship

If integrity, determination and courage describe you -- then, you have what it takes to be a Horatio Alger Scholar. This scholarhship rewards students who possess the character to succeed in life. To qualifiy, you must have a 2.0 GPA and require financial assistance to go to college. Go to www.horatioalger.org/scholarships to see eligibility criteria and apply for yourself. Carpenter-Dent Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to students who have aspirations of becoming a pharmacist. The amount of the award as well as the number of recipients varies from year to year and is awarded based on the student's record and need of assistance. Applications are in the guidance office. The deadline to apply is June 1, 2013.

KAPE Scholarships (Kentucky Association of Professional Educators)

There are two scholarships sponsored by KAPE that are offered to seniors who are graduating in the spring of 2013. Family Member Scholarship

The student will qualify if he/she plans to further his/her education in a program leading to a two or four year certificate or degree program. The scholarship is merit based (the minimum GPA is 3.5. Stop by the guidance office for the application and for more information. Star Student Teacher Mentor Educators interested in this award can recommend an outstanding high school senior.
