Radiology Demand, Capacity & Skill Mix Review reduces WLI payments, provides updated job plans, and saves Trust in North-West £500k. KENDALL BLUCK RADIOLOGY DEMAND CAPACITY & SKILL MIX REVIEW IDENTIFIES £500K IN SAVINGS The Challenge The Trust was facing significant financial pressures and had long-standing vacancies within the radiology department, with a high spend on locum staff and WLIs. The following factors were identified by Kendall Bluck: Variable productivity levels within the radiology team Over £1 million spend on waiting list initiatives Recruitment and retention issues at consultant level Increase in imaging workload due to increased demand Increase in MDT requirements due to government healthcare targets Increased reliance on imaging to support early diagnosis as part of cancer treatment benchmarks The Solution Kendall Bluck Consulting worked with key members of the Trust to highlight the main issues. A business case was completed to undertake an audit of the service. Kendall Bluck undertook the following: Analysis of the trust’s radiology data set Identification of ability to deliver required reporting Meetings with executive leads Analysis by modality and test type One-to-one interviews with all radiologists Identification of issues affecting service delivery The full report provided a support plan of how the Trust could achieve the savings.
