Signa simulation results showing (l to r) glider RCS for varied elevations, range profile for a Cessna aircraft, and 3D RCS of a satellite

Signa is advanced radar signature analysis software, providing fast and accurate signature prediction based on asymptotic electromagnetic (EM) analysis. Signa is uniquely suited to handle electrically large, complex targets that cannot be handled efficiently through full wave analysis.

Radar Signature Analysis Software for Electrically Large and Complex Targets

Signa is advanced radar signature analysis software, providing fast and accurate prediction of far-field monostatic radar cross section (RCS) of geometries that are 10s to 1000s of wavelengths in size.

In addition, Signa can generate range profiles and inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) images of targets, useful for identification of significant target scattering features. Signa employs the Shooting and Bouncing Ray (SBR) asymptotic technique to rapidly

and accurately predict the radar signature of electrically large platforms.

SBR Technology LeadersDelcross is a worldwide leader in the SBR technique for electromagnetic simulation and analysis. In recent years, we have advanced the state-of-the-art in SBR technology; adding several new physics models that cannot be found in other commercially available SBR tools.

Intuitive User Workflow Available for Windows or Linux, the Signa graphical user interface (GUI) provides a complete framework with a logical and ordered workflow from model import to analysis output. Problem setup and analysis settings are organized in an intuitive graphical folder tree. After complex RCS data has been generated for a target, it is placed in the Result folder tree for access and review, and can be further post-processed into range profiles or ISAR imagery.

The Signa GUI allows the user to specify window types (e.g., Hamming, Hann, Rectangular, etc.), zero padding, aperture size, frequency ranges and other relevant parameters for generating range profiles and ISAR imagery. After the range profile or ISAR image is generated, the user can overlay the CAD model on the results to provide more context and insight to the simulation.

Realistic Target Models and MaterialsSigna operates on detailed 3D CAD models of candidate targets. The surfaces of the 3D CAD models can be defined as a combination of metal, absorbers and layered material coatings. Signa supports a variety of facetized CAD formats as well as IGES models. Through the GUI the user can build up complex scenes consisting of multiple CAD models and assign unique

Visual Ray Tracing (VRT) provides insight into SBR ray bounces and scattering

articulation to individual parts.

Model Construction with Canonical ShapesCanonical CAD objects such as plates, spheres, cylinders, tophats, ellipsoids, parabolics and several additional geometry types can also be defined through the GUI.

This capability allows users to build up more complex geometries from simple structures. It also allows users to add simple geometry to an

existing CAD model for quick trade studies.

Visual Ray Tracing and Ray DiagnosticsSBR rays can be displayed before or after analysis as they would be computed in the Signa engine. The Visual Ray Trace (VRT) feature provides helpful information in understanding ray bounce mechanics, General Optics (GO) blockage, and ray densities for a given angle of target illumination.

Model Data Import for Comparisons Signa also supports loading external RCS data for plotting, visualization and comparison to simulated results. The external data can be measured or simulated data and common RCS data formats are supported. The ability to load external data is very useful for validation studies and general comparisons with other techniques or sources.

Efficient SimulationSigna’s solver is lightning fast. It is optimized for parallel processing on multi-core CPUs; providing a near linear speedup with each additional core.

Need even faster simulations? Signa also has an MPI computing option so you can leverage the power of multiple computing nodes to massively accelerate simulation time.

A Complete Monostatic RCS Analysis EnvironmentSigna is a powerful and modern radar signature simulation software tool based upon the proven SBR technique. With the advanced GUI, post-processing capabilities and built-in diagnostic features, you can characterize the radar signature of your most complex targets with confidence.
