Designed by architect Dominique Perrault, this historic racecourse, nestled in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne, has embraced the challenge of breaking with the traditional racecourse model to share its orbit with the general public. A GALLOPING HORSE

France Galop chose Dominique Perrault for the renovation of Longchamp racecourse, which would take two years of major construction work. The famous architect presented a design that upholds the spirit and history of this famous venue.

A 160-metre-long stand, with a glass-fronted top floor that plays on transparencies and perspectives, sets the architectural tone. Thanks to this architectural gesture, spectators can enjoy 360° views across ParisLongchamp racecourse, from the track to the parade ring and the stables.

The inclined stand is inspired by the movement of a galloping horse. Its colour is an ode to autumn hues, the shades of yellow and red that light up the month of October, the time of the most prestigious race meeting of the season: the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Works undertaken by Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France started at the beginning of October 2015. Edouard de Rothschild, President of France Galop, laid the first stone of the future ParisLongchamp racecourse on March 14th, 2016. Two years later an ultra-modern, green and 100% connected racecourse will open its doors.

Beyond the racing calendar, the Parisian racecourse was designed to meet a modern ambition common to all major international metropolises: to create a permanent space for a change of scenery, meetings and leisure activities.

DOMINIQUE PERRAULT Dominique Perrault is the architect responsible for the Bibliothèque National de France, the Velodrome and Olympic Swimming pool in Berlin, the extension of the Court of Justice of the European Communities in Luxemburg, the Olympic Tennis centre in Madrid, the Campus of the Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul, the Fukoko Tower in Osaka and the DC1 Tower in Vienna. Dominique Perrault also oversaw the redevelopment of the Dufour Pavillion at the Chateau of Versailles.

RACINGA NEW VISION

This modern and 100% connected racecourse boasts an exceptional track that will host 34 racedays in 2018. Over the course of those meetings, 17 Group 1 races, the highest level in racing, including five legs of the Epiq Series, will take place on the famous track. The Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, the most important race in the world that is organised by France Galop, is one of those events. The ParisLongchamp racecourse has all the attributes to please and seduce its historic audience and to pique the curiosity of those looking for new experiences by making the world of horseracing accessible to all.

The new ParisLongchamp has been built to improve the racing experience: not a single pillar will block a 180° view of the legendary ParisLongchamp track, which was found by a study to guarantee an optimal viewing experience. Fluid circulation will allow visitors and racing professionals to go from one location to another in under 2 minutes, whilst enjoying the enlarged paddock. Racing can also be followed on 500 television screens that will also display the latest betting information.True to its desire to mix and share, in 2018 ParisLongchamp innovates with Thursday evening meetings, which run from May to July, where racegoers can enjoy some after-work “Jeuxdi” entertainment at the end of the race meeting!

“The Longchamp track is completely unique. Freddy Head, the former jockey who is now a trainer, told me one day that Longchamp is one of the few tracks in the world where you can really be a jockey! I feel very at home at Longchamp. I have been riding there for nearly 30 years and it is one of my favourite tracks in the world. It is incredibly exciting when you come out on to the track for the Arc. Just thinking about gives me goosebumps. I can’t wait to be there again!”

THE LEGENDARY PARISLONGCHAMP TRACKDuring the two years of construction work, particular attention was paid to the 17 hectares of tracks at ParisLongchamp. Since there was no racing during that period, the entire turf track was reseeded. And the long home straight, renowned for its slight incline that demands a serious effort from horses as they approach the winning post, was completely replanted and is now ready for more sporting action! The track’s watering system was also improved. Managed automatically, it now is precise and can target specific zones independently.

INNOVATIONOn Sunday, April 29th, when the Prix Ganay is run, a new tracking system will be introduced. Each runner will

carry a tracking device that will collect a multitude of data. With the Epiq Tracking app (to download), this data will be available to everyone and the race can be watched in 3D, live and during replay. On TV screens, the tracking system will show the precise position of each horse during the race.

A world-renowned temple of Flat racing, ParisLongchamp racecourse can look back over more than 160 years of history. Since its inauguration on April, 27th 1857, in the presence of Napoleon III, Longchamp racecourse has showcased French breeding and racing.

The first major races were established at the end of the 19th century while the prestigious Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe was inaugurated at the end of World War I. From the outset this race took shape as a major international event that would allow its champions to go to stud with an aim to improve the breed.

REDEVELOPMENT OF THE STANDS After the Franco-Prussian War, the original wood and gypsum stands were renovated in 1870 before being replaced by stone buildings in 1904. The stands that were demolished to make room for the new ParisLongchamp were built in 1962/1964. The Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France Group built the new ParisLongchamp racecourse.

IN 2018, LONGCHAMP BECOMES PARISLONGCHAMP The gates of ParisLongchamp open in 2018 to a reveal new building, open and airy and with bold lines designed by architect Dominique Perrault. Built in the 16th arrondissement, ParisLongchamp reiterates its status as an exceptional Parisian location and its attachment to Paris, the capital of elegance. In 2018, Flat racing’s temple amalgamates its name with the most visited capital in the world to become ParisLongchamp.
