1. In what ways are the schools different in the videos? Why are they different? How does housing contribute to these differences? The most obvious difference between these two schools is the percentage of black students and white students. The Wyandanch High School has 80% black and 0% white students. The Rockville Center has about 77% white and only 8% black students. The poor school’s staffs have to stand to ask their students move and they even have some facilities to keep their students safe and they need to use them every day. They do not have enough teachers, social activities like what the rich school has. The rich school has smaller class and good classrooms. They have enough money to buy instruments for students to do the afterschool activiti es. And the teaching ways are also different. In addition they go to different universities. The main cause is about the money, the budget. The poor school district does not have a lot of business, so they do not have money to support the school. But the rich school, the community support a lot about all the programs. The two community annual income is so different and has a large gap between them. 2. Why is it necessary to send actors to rent apartments (listen to the Housing Rules radio show)? How is racial segregation preserved according to the radio show? They do the test to know about the fairness when people want to rent an apartment, to know more about the housing discrimination. The Federal government policy makes the black community less value, and white people are unwilling to li ve with  black people. 3. How did George Romney try to use federal policy to reduce economic and racial isolation? What happened to his effort? (see Housing Rules) He tried to make the state provide more low cost public housing, fair housing. Communities would take Federal fund, especially those for housing and open themselves to different races especially those African-American. But Nixon did not agree with this idea and other people start to complain about it. Romney could  just do his plan secretly but it cannot keep secretly forever. 4. How does Long Island's recent history explain the disparaties in education  between the two schools? The Long Island has different communities and that cause different school districts, about 54 district. High income school districts are more white and low income are more black. Those school districts are decided by the race and income. If those poor school districts want to also have the high quality of education, school facilities, they have to tax more to support the funding because of their low value housing. Because the limited funding, low income school can only do very  basic education while high income school can provide more for students.
