Option: This exercise can also be done in a circle or line where the youth step forward and then resume their former positions before each new statement is read. Take A Step Statements: Take a step if you’ve ever seen someone called a bad name or teased. Take a step if you’ve ever been teased about your accent or the way you say words. Take a step if you or any family member has a disability. Take a step if you’ve been whistled at, or harassed, or been overlooked for an opportunity because you were a girl. Take a step if you’ve been told you should be tough and not cry because you are a boy. Take a step if you’ve been picked last for games or sports, or not included at all. Take a step if you’ve been told you are too young to understand something. Take a step if you’ve been put down or discriminated against because of your skin color. Take a step if you’ve ever been teased about the shape of your body, wearing glasses, hearing aides, or the clothes you wear.
