Splitting Procedure for SRX-R220

The R220 digital cinema projector is large and heavy. The path to a projection booth can be narrow or difficult, so to make this easier, the projector can be split into two pieces. This makes it much easier to handle. The projector can also be made much lighter by removal of the UPS.

All instructions are based on the understanding that the lens is at the front of the projector, and the engineer is at the rear of the projector, facing forward toward the cinema screen. This instruction assumes that ALL the black door panels have been removed – front, back, top bottom, and sides. It is also assumed that the lamp has been safely removed and packed, and likewise the lens and lens cowls. All the electricity supplies – 3 phase and single phase – MUST be switched off and disconnected. If you have not previously carried out this procedure, allow one hour for the disassembly and one hour for the reassembly. Ensure that the work area is well lit and that there is a container for all the screws.

First, the cables which pass from the projector to the security cavity must be disconnected. These are:

Touch screen pillar cablesUSB touch screen cable

Touch screen DC power cable

Touch screen VGA cable

“Traffic light” DC cable

Fan mains power cable

System reset button cable, where fitted

A steel cable-cover panel must be removed, immediately below the pillar, to allow the cables to be passed down.

These cables must be disconnected and passed down through the holes and into the security cavity.

Remove perforated steel side panel below.

Security interlock switch cables:Lower section, left side, two cables pass from the projector to a PCB above

the Netgear network router in the security cavity. Disconnect them from the PCB as shown here.

Remove the front left side cover (12 screws) to gain access to the cableway hole where the cables pass from top to bottom.

Disconnect both cables and pull them up into the projector.

Fan relay controlThis cable passes down the same cableway with the two interlock cables,

from the projector to the cavity. Disconnect this cable from the control board adjacent to the lens, pull it back and drop it down the cableway. Note that only the newer projectors are fitted with this.

Projector Input CablesDisconnect the two large LVDS cables connected to Input C on the projector

head, top right forward area.Disconnect the network cable from the projector head, just forward of the

projector inputs, in the same area. Drop all three cables down the cableway into the security cavity.

Projector power IDisconnect the 3 phase power from the filter at the front of the projector, and

the single phase power from the other filter. Get PVC tape three cable ties and wrap around the two sets of cables, firstly to separately identify each set of cables, and then tie a long cable tie around all the wires and push them up into the projector, leaving the long “tail” of the cable tie hanging down. This is very useful to find the cables and pull them back down when re-assembling the projector. Otherwise it is necessary to remove the whole front of the projector (four panels and many screws) in order to retrieve the cables.

Ingest USB CableThe ingest cable connects between the ingest port on the rear of the

projector (adjacent to the projector power breakers) and the SMS-Server. Disconnect the USB ingest cable from the rear of the SMS-Server and pull the cable back up through the hole into the area immediately behind the projector power switches.

Projector Power Cables IIThe power feed to the fan relay is NOT fitted to every projector – if there is an

IEC power cable hanging out of the traffic light pillar on the top of the projector, then you have fan power and need to do this procedure. The power feed to the fan relay comes from the projector power 2-pole breaker on the rear of the projector, next to the USB ingest point. The power cable must be disconnected from the rear of the 2-pole breaker. Remove the red ventilation grill panel by removing the two screws on the left side, and then slide the panel to the left. Undo the 4 screws which secure the breaker panel in place. Withdraw the breaker panel from the projector. Remove the screws from the load side of the breaker and remove the two wires. Replace the screws and reposition the breaker panel in its original place.

Mechanical Separation:Using a 13mm socket and ratchet, undo the three bolts down each side of the projector. On the front right, a cover plate must be removed to gain access to one of the bolts. Engage the help of four strong men. Have them slowly and carefully lift the projector off the cavity, whilst watching carefully to ensure that all the cables have been disconnected. Take projector to desired site, or if space is limited, set the projector to one side whilst the cavity is transported to the desired position.

Re-assembly:Ensure that the cavity and projector are the right way around and carefully place the projector on top of the security cavity. The security cavity has two spring-pins on each side, which engage with holes in the underneath of the projector frame.

Carefully place the projector on top of the security cavity, ensuring that the pins positively engage with the holes. When correctly engaged, the six bolt holes will also line up, allowing the bolts to be placed in position and driven home.

Now re-connect the cables in the reverse order of the removal.
