Players decide which tokens to use: X’s or O’s
Start the game with a quick round of auditory bombardment or modelling by saying each target word out loud. For example: “This game has radio, racoon, rabbit, robot, rocket, ring…”
On his or her turn, the student tells the instructor where to place the token.For example: “Put O on rocket.”If the instructor is taking a turn, he or she should model the target word in a sentence. “I will put X on rose,” for example.
If a child does not use the target word, provide a context or phonemic cue. For example, if the child says, “Put the O on the boy,” (for target word reading), possible cues include:
“What is the boy doing?”“That boy is rrrr….”
Additional X and O tokens can be created with Copy (CTRL/CMD-C) and Paste(CTRL/CMD-V) functions.

Activity Instructions: Battleship
Prompt students to name/identify two stimulus items: one from the top row, and one from the left column.
Click and drag the ocean marker that marks the intersection of the two named items. Ocean markers can be dragged off of the grid to the side of the screen. At the end of the game, it may be possible to replace the moved tiles using the undo command (CTRL/CMD+Z).
If a ship image is revealed, the student has located one of the battleships. Some battleships occupy more than one location on the board, but turn-taking should continue so each student names a pair of items per turn.
For advanced practice, students can be prompted to use the stimulus items in phrases or sentences before ship locations are revealed.
Keep score according to how many ships are located, either as a team or as individuals. Score can also be counted as a measure of how many “searches” it takes to locate all of the ships, aiming for the lowest score possible.
Before your session starts: relocate ships by selecting one and dragging it to a new location. Click on the ship and select Order from the menu to move the ship behind the other image layers on the page.
