I'm Rachel Schless, and I'm running to become
your next Communications Vice President. I 'm
currently a sophomore at Buffalo Grove High
School, and belong to Temple Chai in Long
Grove. In my free time, you can find me writing,
painting, baking, on social media, or texting my
friends. I also volunteer with two organizations
in which I work with kids and adults who have
intellectual disabilities. Along with the
activities I do throughout the school year, I 've
also applied to be a camp counselor this summer.
Unfortunately that means that if I 'm hired I will
not be able to fully attend Mechina.
However, where I've really been able to find
myself is within our NFTY community. Ever since
kickoff my eighth grade year, I have had a love
for NFTY that I've not found anywhere else. I
enjoy writing programs, advertising for events,
being with the people- if it's NFTY, I'm in.
Through my experiences, with CAR and beyond, I
have developed so many leadership skills that I
would love to share with all of you during this
upcoming year!

I've always been a creative person. Through art, I've found
how to piece things together so that something beautiful is
produced. Through writing, I've found how to express
myself and get my points across. Through volunteering, I've
learned how to think on the spot, turning a chaotic
situation around. Through NFTY, I've learned how to take all of these things and share them with a community. I want to be CVP because I believe that my creativity will allow me to fulfill the duties of the position.

During events, many individuals (especially new members) may need help from another teen or have
questions that an advisor cannot answer. I want to make sure that all participants have at least one peer at the event that they know they can go to. To achieve this, I would like to start a new system where
before each event, a knowledgeable group leader would be put with a group of participants. They
would sent out a message explaining a bit about the upcoming event and telling the group members that they'll be there if anyone wants to talk at any point before or during the event. By using this system of
outreach, not only do participants get to know somebody before an event, but they will be able to feel more comfortable during the event knowing that a peer is there for them.
Communication and Community Building
Education Through Social MediaWhen we're at events, we talk a lot about what's going on in our society, our Jewish culture, and our
region. However, during the months between our events, there isn't much extensive discussion within our community as a whole. I would like to change that by having myself and others posting on Facebook once a month in order to continuously educate people on those three topics- society, culture, region. Not only to a lot of people want to know about these things, but people deserve to know! Facebook is a great platform to educate our region through, because so many people are connected to it, but it is not being used at it's full potential. By educating people throughout the year, they will gain a better understanding and be able to better connect with the services and programs that go on at events. This
could allow more people to find what they're passionate about, take leadership positions, and focus on what's being said.
The GeshThe Gesh is a newsletter that is normally produced after every event. A
lot of hard work is put into the Gesh, and it contains a lot of fun activities and useful information. However, many people don't read it! I would
like to communicate more with our region in order to make a Gesh that people know about and want to read. Once more people start paying
attention to this great source, they can gain more information on things that benefit them- both inside and outside of NFTY.
Communication is more thansimply exchanging words
