What is QuizBreak? QuizBreak is a free,

web-based application developed by Center of Language Education and Research (CLEAR) at Michigan State University.

QuizBreak allows users to make Jeopardy-like games.

Setting up an Account

Go to http://clear.msu.edu/quizbreak Click on the Sign up link below the Login on

the right of the page. Follow the instructions to set up an account

with CLEAR and log in.

Creating a QuizBreak!

After logging in, click on New QuizBreak!

Getting Started: Columns

1) Click on the arrows to create new columns. 2) Click on the X to delete a column. 3) Click on the category titles to edit them. 4) Click on the boxes to write questions and answers.

Making Questions and Answers

After selecting a box, enter the question and answer.

Record Audio

If your computer has a microphone, you can record an audio component to your question.

Click Record Audio to record your voice. Afterwards, press Play Audio to listen or the X to delete it. If you want better quality recordings for your QuizBreak!,

the LRC can help you make higher-quality ones.

Record Videos If your computer has a

webcam, you can click Record Video to record a video message to accompany your question.

If you are interested in making higher-quality recordings for your QuizBreak, the Language Rersource Center (LRC) can get you set up in its video studio.

Add Images

Click on Add Image to include an image from the Internet. Using the FireFox browser, right click on an image and

select Copy Image Location. Paste the URL in the Image box on QuizBreak! Press the X to delete the image and Display Image…

Add Images

Add Links

Select Add Link to link the question to another website such as YouTube.

Upload Multimedia

You can also upload image, audio and video files from your computer to be part of the question.

QuizBreak handles jpg, mov, wmv, mp4, m4a, and mp3 files. If you want help creating multimedia files, the LRC can help.

Accessing the Finished QuizBreak! and Setting the

Question Values

1) Press Play to preview your QuizBreak! Access your finished QuizBreak! via the URL here.

2) Change what currency the questions are worth. 3) Change the numerical value of the questions.

Save, Delete, Log out, Edit

Click on My QuizBreaks! to edit a different QuizBreak or to start a new one.

The QuizBreak you create saves to the CLEAR server as a URL.

Delete your QuizBreak! or Log out.

Playing QuizBreak!

When playing your QuizBreak, click on a box to show the question. Click on show answer to reveal the answer. Divide the class into teams. As the moderator, award points to or take

points away from each team with the ☑’s and the X’s.
