General Guidelines for Micro-quiz.
DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY

General instructions
• Round 1 is only qualifying in nature. Marks of this round will not be carried forward.
• Marks of only round 2 and round 3 will be added to decide the winner.
• In case of ties, tie breakers will be held only for the last positions.
• Tie breaker marks will not be considered in the total score.
• In case of any dispute the decision of the Observer/Coordinator, Department of Biotechnology, VNSGU will be considered final.
• Any one participant from each team will be allowed to appear in this round.
• A paper with 30 multiple choice questions will be given, to be solved in 15 minutes. No negative marking.
• This is only a qualifying round and the marks of this round will not be considered in subsequent rounds.
• Top six teams will qualify for Round 2.• Ties will be considered only for the last position.
•PRELIMINARY ROUNDROUND 1
• A set of 10 multiple choice questions to be answered in 5 minutes.
• There will be negative marking.
• +1 for correct answer,-0.5 for incorrect answer.
• Tie breaker marks will not be considered in the total score.
Tie Breaker
ROUND 2
• Each team will pick a chit to decide the sequence of sitting and will be sorted into teams e.g. A, B, C, D, E and F.
• The order so decided will also indicate the question set to be asked in sub round 1.
• Only top three teams will qualify for Round 3.
• Only marks of round 2 will be considered to decide the top three teams.
Sub Round 2.1: M.C.Qs
• There are six set of questions.• The set for each team was decided by picking chits.• The questions are in MCQ format.• +10 for each correct answer.• -5 for each incorrect answer.• Only one attempt will be allowed.• Questions may be passed to the team according to the order
mentioned below: A -> B -> C -> D-> E -> F-> A
• If the team does not answer, the question passes to the next team.
• Marking for pass questions : +5, -5• Questions that remained unanswered will be passed over to
the audience.
Sub Round 2.2: Visual Round
• Each slide will contain a picture and an accompanying question which has to be answered.
• +10 for each correct answer.
• -5 for each incorrect answer.
• Only one attempt will be allowed.
• Questions may be passed to the team according to the order mentioned below:
A -> B -> C -> D-> E -> F-> A
• If the team does not answer, the question passes to the next team.
• Marking for pass questions : +5, -5
• Questions that remained unanswered will be passed over to the audience.
Tie Breaker
• Buzzer round
• Mixed bag [Questions may be MCQ, Visual, True or False type or direct]
• There will be 5 questions.
• +10 for each correct answer.
• -5 for each incorrect answer.
• Tie breaker marks will not be considered in the total score.
• The top three teams (on the basis of final marks of Round 2) will qualify for the final round.
• For this round each question has to be answered within a minute.
• After one minute the question will be passed to the audience.
• For deciding the winners, marks of both, round 2 and round 3 will be considered.
•FINAL ROUNDROUND 3:
• On the basis of the marks in round 2 each team will get a chance to choose one topic.
• Team with highest marks will choose first and so on. In case of tie, a separate tie breaker will be held, with rules as mentioned previously.
• Each team will be asked 5 questions from the selected topic .
• One minute will be given to answer the question.• NO PASS. Unanswered question goes to audience.• +10 for each correct answer.• -5 for each incorrect answer.
Sub Round 3.1
• This is a buzzer round.• As soon as the picture/graphics is displayed the timer will
start.• After one minute the question will be passed to the
audience.• There are two sets in this round
– Set 1: Three pictures will be shown on the screen and the teams have to identify the link between them. Could be a concept, idea, theory, process, scientist etc.
– + 5 for identifying each picture. +10 for identifying the link.– -5 for every wrong answer. There are four answers in each
question and each will have individual penalty for wrong answer.
– NO pass.
Sub Round 3.2: Visual Round
• Each question has 5 hints in the form of pictures.• +25 if you identify in first hint.• +20• +15• +10• +5• -5 for each incorrect answer• Only one attempt per team/hint• The next hint will be shown either after one minute or
when all teams agree to move to the next hint, whichever is earlier.
• The question will be passed to the audience only after the last hint has gone unanswered.
