QuiqMeds is both a product and a service. The product is a computerized
fulfillment system – a locked inventory control machine in the physician’s office
– that is linked wirelessly to proprietary software. The software produces
personalized medication information sheets and personalized medication
labels that ensure patient safety. Further, the software operates the automated
fulfillment system using a simple, password-protected touchscreen to deliver
the medication ordered by the physician in less than a minute. The software
also tracks inventory and HIPAA-compliant usage data.
The QuiqMeds fully automated inventory control equipment is unique in the industry. Our closest
|competitors in the market offer “point of care medication delivery” – that is, manual systems for which a
physician pre-purchases a formulary and then sells these drugs from locking cabinets bought separately
from a business supply store. These manual systems are fraught with potential for fraud, pilferage, and
non-compliance. QuidMeds’ delivery system is a locked, steel-frame 800-pound computerized commercial
vending-type machine that has been specially modified with simple yet
effective failsafe inventory controls that enhance your practice’s efficiency and
adds patient convenience.
To enhance service to your office, inventory data in a physician’s QuiqMeds
system is automatically relayed via the Internet to the local QuiqMeds
customer service center. Your customer service representative typically
delivers refills on a bi-weekly basis, bringing directly to your office sealed
pre-packaged, safety-capped bottles with units-of-use formulary ordered to restock your QuiqMeds
delivery system. A check of delivered inventory, usually by an office manager, is all that is required of your
staff – the insured QuiqMeds customer service representation unlocks, reloads and periodically checks
your machine for operating efficiency.

Studies show patients benefit from QuiqMeds because there is
no added trip to the pharmacy to have their prescription filled, so
compliance can start immediately and conveniently. For patients
without insurance for prescription coverage, the cost savings using
QuiqMeds is evident. And patients who have a prescription plan will
usually opt to use the convenient QuiqMeds system when any
additional cost is minimal. For example, the suggested cost to the
patient for a QuiqMeds-delivered supply of Lisinopril, a medication to
treat hypertension, is currently $22 for 100 pills. Patients with a prescription plan may take the
prescription to his or her independent pharmacy, and will typically pay a $20 co-pay for a 90-day
supply of this drug. That’s roughly $0.245 per pill at the pharmacy, or $0.22 each through QuiqMeds.
Patients without a prescription benefit will likely pay a pharmacy about $40 for their 90-day supply
– but from your office, would pay only $22, a steep saving. (Some physicians have opted to deliver
some generic drugs or even brand-name drugs that cost more or are not usually covered at all by a
drug benefit’s formulary; a physician sets his or her own fee for the drugs, and most patients are
willing to pay this fee for convenience sake.) Convenience, patient safety/medication education, and
cost savings most often results in greater patient satisfaction with your practice.

How QuiqMeds Works in a Primary Care Physician’s Office
1Patient is examined by the physician, a diagnosis is made, and the need for treatment by medication
is established. This patient, for example, needs a prescription to treat hypertension – and your
QuiqMeds system stocks Lisinopril 10 mg.
2The physician can write a prescription for the Lisinopril, or offer the patient the more
convenient and more affordable drug provided directly in the physician’s office. In this
example, the suggested cost to the patient for a QuiqMeds-delivered supply of
Lisinopril is currently $22 for 100 pills. Patients with a prescription plan may take the
prescription to his or her independent pharmacy, and will typically pay a $20 co-pay for a
90-day supply of this drug. Patients without a prescription benefit will likely pay a pharmacy
about $40 for their 90-day supply – but from your office, would pay only $22. The cost
savings to a patient without a prescription benefit is obvious; QuiqMeds’ experience shows
that most patients with a prescription plan will gladly pay a small extra amount at the
doctor’s office for the added convenience of QuiqMeds.
3The QuiqMeds form, attached to the patient’s file, indicates to the front desk staff that a medication
order has been placed. Meanwhile, the physician enters his private passcode and prescription into a
wall-mounted touchpad.
4Front desk staff matches patient file data on the linked computer system
with the QuiqMeds order, and in just a few clicks on the computer mouse,
the pre-packaged, safety-sealed prescription is dispensed at the QuiqMeds
machine. Also, the adjacent color printer prints a consumer education form,
product label with safety double-check and labels for the patient file.
5Patient receives medication on the spot – no need for a separate
trip to the pharmacy, unnecessary waiting, or delays in starting
needed medication.
