About Ooty: Ooty (Ootacamund) the Queen of the Hill Stations, also known as Blue Mountains is one of the most beautiful hill stations in India. This hill station has splendid green downs and lofty hills of extraordinary scenic beauty and is endowed with a salubrious climate similar to the English summer. Located in the Western Ghats at a height of 7,500ft.

The Government Botanical Garden is a botanical garden in Udhagamandalam (Ooty), Tamil Nadu state, India laid out in 1848. The Gardens, divided into several sections, cover an area of around 22 hectares, and lie on the lower slopes of Doddabetta peak. The garden has a terraced layout. It is maintained by the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department.

It ascends the slopes of the hill at an elevation of 2250–2500 metres above Mean Sea Level. The garden enjoys a temperate climate, with an average rainfall of 140 cms, the most of which is received during south-west monsoon, with frosty nights from November to February. The maximum and minimum temperatures are 28 °C and 0 °C respectively.

2. Ooty lake

The lake is surrounded by groves of Eucalyptus trees with a railway line running along one shore. During the summer season in May, boat races and boat pageantry are organised for two days.

The boat house, which adjoins the lake was opened by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC). Boating is the prime attraction at the lake. The boat house offers boating facilities with Paddle boats, Row boats, and Motor boats. It also features a garden, a mini train and an amusement park. The other notable features include a canteen run by the TTDC and pony rides in front of the boat house.

3. Rose Garden

The Rose Garden (formerly known as the Jayalalithaa Rose Garden, Centerary Rose Park and Nootrandu Roja Poonga) is the largest rose garden in India. It is situated on the slopes of the Elk Hill in Vijayanagaram of Ooty town in Tamil Nadu, India at an altitude of 2200 meters. The Rose Park was established at Vijayanagaram in Ooty town to commemorate the centenary Flower Show in Government Botanical Gardens, Udagamandalam in May 1995. The flowers are arranged in five curving terraces covering four hectares. This garden is maintained by the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department.

4. Coonoor

Coonoor is a Taluk and a municipality in the Nilgiris district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is known for its production of Nilgiri tea. Coonoor is located at an altitude of 1,850 m above sea level, and is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiri hills after Ooty. It is an ideal base for a number of trekking expeditions leading into the Nilgiris. The Nearest airport is Coimbatore International Airport about 79 km from Coonoor town. Coonoor is located at 11.35°N 76.82°E.It has an average elevation of 1850 metres (6070 feet) above sea level.It features a sub-tropical highland climate (Koppen;Cwb) due to high altitude. Here, frost is very rare, unlike Ooty or Lovedale, which are at a higher altitude than Coonoor.

5. Dolphin’s nose view point

Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint is a tourist spot in Coonoor, The Nilgiris District, Tamil Nadu. Dolphin's Nose is well over 1,000 feet above sea level, 10 km from Coonoor and is a spectacular spot to visit. The tip of the peak resembles a dolphin's nose, hence the name Dolphin's Nose. It is an enormous rock formation that is entirely unique. There are gigantic ravines found both to the left and right of Dolphin's Nose and there is a view of inspiring Catherine Falls with its continuing stream several thousand metres below which is located a relatively short distance away opposite of the Dolphin's Nose. The best part of spot are the hairpin turns and tea plantations on the way.

6. Simpark

Sim's Park is in Coonoor, The Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu. It is an important tourist place to visit in Coonoor, at a height of 1780 meters above mean sea level. Here the maximum temperature goes up to 30 degree Celsius and the minimum falls to 5°C. The average rain fall of this garden is 150 cm. It extends over an area of 12 hectares of undulating land and possesses a number of natural advantages. This is a natural garden. Inside the park there are some beautiful terrace with colorful flower beds, lawns and rockeries also there are some Naturally occurring trees, shrubs, creepers and many

unusual species of plants that have been brought from a variety of places around the world. The garden as some rare economic trees like Rudraksh- bead tree, Cinnamomum, Queensland karry pine, a handsome ornamental tree and graceful trees like Araucaria, Quercus, Phoenix, Magnolia, Pine, Turpentine, Tree ferns, Camellia this is all are as many attractions in this park.

7. Lamb’s rock

Lamb's Rock is a tourist spot in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu It is located at a distance of 8 kilometers from Coonoor. It has a spectacular view of the Coimbatore plains, tea estates and coffee estates on the slopes of the Nilgiri Hills.

Coorg trip – 2 nights 2 days

About Coorg: Coorg (Kodagu) is a mountainous region with good landscape covered with green forest, coffee plantation and creepers of spices. It’s in the midst of western ghat. Coorg is situated in the southern part of Karnataka, Coorg is also known as Switzerland of India. Nowadays, a lot of urbanites come to Coorg during the weekend and they indulge themselves in many activities like cycling trekking, jungle camping. There are many good places to trek across Coorg. It is a good place to go cycling as it has curvy roads and tough terrain. People prefer to come to Coorg though there are not many historical places to visit. One need not search for a good place in Coorg because the whole place makes you feel that you are in nature’s lap. The beauty of nature along with the serenity of the dense cover of greenery is hard to find elsewhere.

to Mandapatta hills. Its 33km from madekeri. it takes around 1.5 hrs.

From Dubare you will be seeing Cauvery Nisargdhama.

After that you will be visiting Tibetan Monastery-Golden temple.

Geography of Coorg

Kodagu is located on the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats. It has a geographical area of 4,102 km (1,584 sq mi). The district is bordered by Dakshina Kannada district to the northwest, Hassan district to the north, Mysore district to the east, Kasaragod district in west and Kannur district of Kerala to the southwest, and Wayanad district of Kerala to the south. It is a hilly district, the lowest elevation of which is 900 metres (3,000 ft) above sea-level. The highest peak, Tadiandamol, rises to 1,750 metres (5,740 ft), with Pushpagiri, the second highest, at 1,715 metres (5,627 ft). The main river in Kodagu is the Cauvery, which originates at Talacauvery, located on the eastern side of the Western Ghats, and with its tributaries, drains the greater part of Kodagu.

In July and August, rainfall is intense, and there are often showers in November. Yearly rainfall may exceed 4,000 millimetres (160 in) in some areas. In dense jungle tracts, rainfall reaches 3,000 to 3,800 millimetres (120 to 150 in) and 1,500 to 2,500 millimetres (59 to 98 in) in the bamboo district to the west. Kodagu has an average temperature of 15 °C (59 °F), ranging from 11 to 28 °.

Madikeri: Madikeri is the district headquarters of Kodagu (Coorg), Which is the ideal place for one to start exploring Coorg. Madikeri is situated at 1525m elevation. The climate is more of cold across the year and it also receives heavy rainfall during monsoon. In Madikeri, you can visit the fort which was built in the 19th century. Another other place to visit is the Omkareshwara temple and the Raja Seat, which was king’s preferred place during summer. You will find many shops where you can shop for local spices like coffee, Black pepper, cardamom, fresh from plantation field and of course, honey.

1. Mandalpatti hills

Mandalpatti is one of the best tourist spots in Coorg. Mandalpatti hills are located around 25- 30 km from Madikeri town en route to Abbi falls. Mandalpatti is situated on the top of the hills. Once you reach the top of the hill you will get a panoramic view. From the top of the mountain you can get views of distant places which are covered with green pastures. Far stretching green mountains and the cool breeze will definitely make one feel like heaven.

2. Abbey falls

The Abbey waterfall is located amidst private coffee plantations with stocky coffee bushes and spice estates with trees entwined with pepper vines. A hanging bridge has been constructed just opposite the falls. There is a Kali Mata temple on one side of the bridge.

From Madikeri, the falls are accessible by a narrow road to the coffee estate. A path through coffee and cardamom plantations leads to the waterfalls. The roar of the falls can be heard from the road.

3. Dubare Elephant camp

Dubare is known for its elephant camp, a forest camp on the banks of the river Kaveri in the district of Kodagu, Karnataka. It is an important base for the Karnataka Forest Department's elephants.

These elephants for the Mysore Dussehra are said to have been trained at Dubare elephant camp. At present, after logging operations have ceased, the elephants have been practically retired except for giving some rides to tourists.

There are opportunities for trekking, elephant rides, fishing, and river rafting. These activities are hosted by jungle lodges and resorts. The Forest Department also conducts some treks along well-defined routes.

4. Cauvery Nisargdhama

Kaveri Nisargadhama is an island garden, formed by river Kaveri near Kushalnagar in the district of Kodagu, Karnataka. It is approximately 3 km (1.9 mi) from Kushalanagara, off the State Highway and 30 km (19 mi) from Madikeri and 95 km (59 mi) from Mysore. It is a holiday destination in Karnataka.

It is a 64-acre (260,000 m2) island, with lush foliage of thick bamboo groves, sandalwood and teak trees. The island is accessible through a hanging rope bridge. There are deer, rabbits, peacocks, and a children's playground as well as an orchidarium.

Visitors are allowed to get into water at a few shallow and safe points along the river. Elephant rides and boating are some of the other attractions. It also has a forest department-run guest house and treetop bamboo cottages.

Bylekuppe is the Tibetan settlement in South India, Bylekuppe is on the outer fringes of Kodagu. The landscape is dotted with several Buddhist monasteries – the important ones being Sera Jhe and Sera Me. The Mahayana Buddhist Universtiy is located at Sera Jhe. The other important monastery here is the Tashi Lhumpo Monastery, renowned as the seat of Panchen Lama. The Madroling Monastery with its 40ft-high idols of Buddha and his disciples are the other attractions.

Coorg culinary:

Coorg food is very famous as they use vide range of spices in their cuisine. The world famous Coorg pork curry (Pandi curry), is a unique way of cooking pork. The other must-have food is the Steamed rice ball (Kadmbutto) along with the pork curry (Pandi curry).
