Competitve achievements:2011 ASA National Championships2010 Commonwealth Games2010 Commonwealth Games2010 ASA National Championships2009 World Championships2009 ASA National Championships2005 European Championships

Biography:Nicknamed ‘Pitbull’, Jazz Carlin made her senior international breakthrough at the Great Britain v Germany Duel Meet at her home pool in Swansea in February 2010.

Carlin caused a stir by beating teammate and Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington in the 400m Freestyle then beating teammate and world silver medallist Jo Jackson in the 200m a day later.

After helping the Great Britain team to a 4x200m Freestyle Relay medal at the 2010 European Championships in Budapest, Carlin ended a barren spell of 36 years for Welsh female swimming medallists at the Commonwealth Games by striking 200m Freestyle silver in a Welsh record time.

A few days later, Carlin added to her tally in India, becoming the first female Welsh swimmer in 80 years to win two Commonwealth medals at one Games by scooping bronze in the 400m Freestyle.

Jess VarnishPromap sponsored cyclist

Background:Jess is 20 and lives in Manchester. She cycles for the Halesowen A&CC.

Competitve achievements:2011 European Junior Championships2010 World Cup – Cali2010 World Cup – Melbourne2010 4th World Championships2008 World Cup – Manchester2008 European Junior Championships2007 World Junior Championships2007 European Junior Championships

Biography:Jessica Varnish’s first performance at senior level was at the World Track Championships in Manchester in 2008. It was quite a step up for the then 17-year old, whose only previous experience of a World Championship was at junior level.

Being called up to the senior squad was a remarkable achievement in itself in only her second year as a junior on the Olympic Development Programme. Varnish gained invaluable experience in Manchester and used it to her advantage at the European Track Championships in Poland.

Varnish won both the junior Keirin and the 500m, prompting some to suggest that she could well be a successor to Victoria Pendleton.

Varnish again impressed at the Manchester World Cup in 2008; pairing up with Anna Blyth in the team sprint, the Worcestershire rider helped Great Britain to an unexpected gold medal in the discipline.

At only 18 years of age, Varnish is one of Britain’s brightest track sprint prospects of the future.
