Purpose of this document

This is just a quick reference guide for a preparation of CIC by Paris MOU and Tokyo MOU on Navigation Safety from September 1 to November 30, 2017, showing a guide to answer each questionnaire for FURUNO’s Navigation equipment in order to support captains and crews efficiently to proceed the inspection without time-consuming, except the demonstration of familiarization of ECDIS operations.

Please note that we FURUNO are not liable for any direct or indirect loss resulting from failure of PSC inspection.

Depending on the inspector’s request, there are several means to show “the data is recorded fully”: Show the latest test report of Annual Performance Test (APT) Show the Remote Alarm Panel (RAP). In the event that one of data items to be recorded is missing,

audible and visual alarm will be shown on the RAP. Show the data on the LivePlayer software (replay software) in order to show all the data to be recorded

is processed properly in the VDR (Live Play function: See Appendix 3 for VR-7000, Appendix4 for VR-3000/3000S, Appendix 5 for VR-5000

How to view status of chart cells

The [Cell Status] dialog box shows the status of the chart cells stored in the system. To show this dialog box, get into the Chart maintenance mode then click the [Cell Sta-

tus] button on the InstantAccess bar™.

• Type: Type of chart cell, ENC, C-MAP or ARCS.

• Chart Name: Chart name

• Data Server: The name of the data server where the chart was downloaded from.

• Edition/Issue Date: Edition no. and issued date of the chart cell.

• Update: Num/Date: No. and date of the update of the chart cell.

• Status:

• [up to date]: Cell is up-to-date.• [not up to date]: Cell is not up-to-date.• [not installed]: Cell is not installed.• [withdrawn]: Cell has been canceled.• [unknown]: Cell is not delivered as part of a data server service (ex. unencrypted

Using SENC conversion history log The system automatically records the results of all conversions into the conversion history log. You can view the content of this log at any time by doing the following:

1. Spin the scrollwheel to display Menu/Info/Chart Menu in the mouse functions area then push the right mousebutton.

2. Choose SENC Convert from the menu then push the scrollwheel to show the SENC Convert window.

3. After conversion (Conversion list is empty), click the Conv. History button.Note: You can also activate the Conv. History from the "Failed SENC conversions" window.

A list of converted charts appears. You can view the status of converted charts on the list, and also source if it is available.

LIVE PLAY

This software has a “Live Play” capability when the Live Player PC is connected to the VDR with a LAN cable. The Live Player V5 allows monitoring all the data input to the VDR in real time at a remote location. This is useful for checking the current status of all devices connected to the VDR.

1 WiringAny PC in the network with the Live Player software can access the VDR. Also, two PCs can communicate with the VDR since the VDR can distribute the Live Play data. However, the operation via a router cannot be guaranteed.

To connect more than two PCs, consult with your dealer.

Note 1: After powering the DCU, the RAP shows “Starting” and the DCU shows “No DCU connection” for approx. four minutes. Do not connect the Live Player V5 during this period, to prevent fatal error.

Note 2: The DCU’s Fail Safe function may execute Process Restart, which could dis-connect the Live Player V5 from the DCU. If this occurs, reconnect the Live Player V5.

Note 3: Do not connect any devices other than the VR-7000/7000S and the PC(s) w/Live Player V5 to this network, to prevent malfunction of the VR-7000/7000S by un-wanted packet transmission.

2 How to Display DataTo start Live Player V5, simply select the source of data and click the [Start] button.

Note: When the driver install program is activated during “Live Play”, the audio volume may get louder regardless of the setting on PC. In this case, reboot the Live Player V5.

1. Start the Live Player V5 software.

2. Open the [Tool] menu and select [Source Select].

3. Click the drop-down list and select [Live].

4. Click the [Connect] button.Note: If one of the following messages appears, after clicking the [Connect] but-ton, refer to the following table to rectify the error. If not rectified, contact your deal-er.

5. Click the [Start] button to play back data in real time.

To pause the live play, click the [Pause] button.

6. To stop playing back the data, click the [Stop] button.

The maximum number of the PC connected to the DCU is exceeded. Disconnect other PC from the DCU.

The Live Player V5 program version is older than the DCU program version. Use the Live Player V5 version 1.20.

1 Wiring Any PC in the network installing this software can access the VDR. Also, two PCs can communicate with the VDR since the VDR (VR-3000/3000S version 1.5x and 2.00 or higher) can distribute the Live Play data. However, the operation via a router cannot be guaranteed.

1 ModeThe BR-500 has three main modes of operation:

Manual OFF: The BNWAS is inactive. Use this mode when entering or just leaving harbor. No reset is necessary. Default setting.Manual ON: The BNWAS is active. Use this mode when the vessel is traveling on the open sea. Reset is necessary to continue operation.AUTO: The BNWAS is active or inactive according to the autopilot state. BNWAS is ON when the autopilot is ON; OFF when the autopilot is OFF.

Note: Auto operating mode is not available for SOLAS vessels.

1. Press the MODE key. You are asked to enter the pass-word. Enter the password. See the FURUNO service tech-nician for the password.

2. Use the CursorPad to select a mode then press the ENT/CALL key.

2 Dormant PeriodThe watch time interval can be selected from the Administrator Menu. Only the admin-istrator of the system can access the Administrator Menu. See paragraph 4.10.1 menu for how to select the interval time.

3 Watch Alarm SequenceThe watch alarm checks for the presence of the OOW on the bridge. If equipment on the bridge (Main Alarm Panel, Timer Reset Panel, Backup Navigator, Autopilot, or Mo-tion Detector) is operated within the selected watch time interval, no alarm is given. If no equipment is operated within the selected watch time interval, the system contin-ues in the sequence shown below.

1. The watch alarm timer starts when the system is started. The length of the watchtime interval countdown timer bar (color is light-blue at this time) decreases astime progresses. (The timer interval is set on the Administrator Menu, which is un-der the control of the Administrator.)

If the equipment connected to the system is operated before the timer reaches ze-ro, the timer countdown is restarted.

Bridge alarm sequence

Watch AlarmThe main purpose of the watch alarm is to monitor bridge activity on the ship that uses a “one-man bridge”. The system looks for the operation of equipment within the select-ed time interval (3-12 minutes). The OOW validates operator fitness on the bridge with the WATCH/RESET button on the Timer Reset Panel or any operation on the Bridge Panel. The system also acknowledges the presence of the OOW if some equipment connected to the BR-1000 (radar, ECDIS, etc.) is operated. The watch alarm has four stages, one a prewarning stage.

• Prewarning: If the OOW does not validate operator fitness within the selected timeinterval, a lamp on the Bridge Panel flashes (in red) and a lamp on the Timer ResetPanel flashes (in yellow) for 15 seconds.

• 1st stage: If the OOW does not validate operator fitness in the prewarning stage,the lamps flash an additional 15 seconds and a 15-second audible alarm sounds.

• 2nd stage: If the OOW does not validate operator fitness at the 1st stage, the alarmis sent to the Cabin Panel in the living quarters of the selected back-up officer andall the Cabin Panels fitted in public areas. These Cabin Panels give visual (illumi-nated lamp) and audible (buzzer) alarms.

• 3rd stage: If the OOW does not validate operator fitness within the selected timeinterval (90-180 s), the Cabin Panel in the living quarters of all navigation officersand all the Cabin Panels fitted in public areas give audible and visual alarms (illumi-nated lamp).

The OOW stops the audible alarm and acknowledges the alarm. Then, audible and visual alarms at the Bridge Panel, Cabin Panels and Timer Reset Panel are removed and the watch safety timer is reset.

The BR-1000 complies with IMO regulations. This means that the alarm is given for 30 seconds AFTER selected time interval elapses for the 15-second visual alarm (flashing) and the15-second visual (flashing) and audible (buzzer) alarms at the 1st stage.

The [OWN INFORMATION] display shows your ship’s data across four tabs. The in-formation displayed is shown in the figure below. This data should be checked once per voyage or once per month, whichever is shorter. Data may be changed only on the authority of the master.

The Officer of the Watch should periodically check position, SOG and sensor informa-tion for quality.

The table below list each tab’s contents along with a brief description.
