Superintendent’s Thoughts

Dr. Gretta Kumpf

Homecoming traditions and celebrations are an integral part of the high school years and a time to promote school spirit. It is also a time for the community to come together and welcome back alumni. It is as much a part of the fall landscape as the cooler temperatures and changing leaves. One such ritual is the annual Powderpuff game, a flag football game between girls from the junior and senior classes. It is entertaining and great fun for the entire family. I hope you will consider joining us on Thursday evening at City Park beginning at 7:00 p.m. A $2.00 per person donation is requested. Then follow the crowd to the bonfire where our football coaches, players and cheerleaders will get you fired up for Friday’s crowning of the homecoming king and queen and the football game against Stebbins. Be a part of Tipp’s traditions.

The Tippecanoe High School Marching Band earned another ‘Superior’ rating from the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) judges at the Kettering Fairmont Band Invitational. The band also brought home a trophy for 3rd place Class A band. Congratulations on another fantastic performance! The band is off from competition this week for Homecoming but will compete again on October 24 at the Tecumseh Marching Band Invitational.

Congratulations to the Marching Band

A group of Tippecanoe High School students participated in Manufacturing Day with a field trip to Minco Tool & Mold Inc. The national program is designed to address a skilled labor shortage and inspire the next generation of manufacturers. Students learned about the one-stop-shop provider of thermoplastic solutions specializing in product design, molding and manufacturing. They also explored each job from design to completion while taking a tour of the facility. Hands-on activities provided an opportunity for them to better understand the tasks. Company staff also introduced students to a variety of careers in the manufacturing field including apprenticeships. The high school guidance department arranged the trip.

Supporting a Teacher and

Pink Ribbon Girls

Broadway principal Tina Smith presented a check to the local chapter of Pink Ribbon Girls in honor of teacher Heather Bledsoe and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All staff who wore pink and jeans made a donation to PRG. Also pictured is Diana Featherstone from PRG, an agency that provides support services to those affected by cancer.

“Pulseras” Empower

Artists

The Tippecanoe High School Spanish department continues selling hand-woven bracelets, or ‘pulseras’ to raise funds that help fair trade jobs, education, sustainability, and worker rights while teaching students about the culture, lives, and struggles of Central Americans. Now middle school students are supporting the project’s goal to create a more just and colorful world by encouraging conscious consumerism.

Tipp Students Thank you to the Tipp City Area Community Foundations for bringing Step Up to Diversity and Inclusion to the district. The visually stimulating, informative program promotes change through awareness. Using the integration of poetry, spoken word, music, and contemporary dance, viewers feel the impact stereotyping has on society. It also explores the implications of bullying. The Dayton Contemporary Dance Company performed for students in grades 2 to 8 and adjusted the content for the different ages.

Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Delights Nevin Coppock Students

Members of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra performed a wide variety of musical styles for Nevin Coppock first graders. They also introduced students to a variety of instruments and the unique sounds each makes. This educational opportunity to expose children to the arts is available through the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance.

Thank You Tipp City Fire Department for a Great Fire Prevention Week

Tipp students in grades K to 5 learned about the importance of smoke detectors and practiced what to do in the event of a fire. Thank you Tipp City Fire Department for welcoming students to the fire station, bringing your gear and smoke house to our students, and sharing your expertise during Fire Prevention Week. The volunteers also reminded students to practice an escape plan with their family and include an outside meeting location.

Sixth Graders Welcome Grandparents

Grandparents are nothing short of grand! Tippecanoe Middle School 6th graders welcomed their grandparents to school for the annual Grandparents Day. The beloved tradition brings out the best in our students who enjoy a picnic lunch with their loved ones (often homemade by grandma) and proudly show them around the school. It is often hard to tell who enjoys this special day more….the students or their grandparents. The smiles certainly tell the story.

Tippecanoe Middle School students new to the district were the guests of honor at a morning breakfast hosted by the Friends of Rachel Club. The informal get together was a chance for the students to mingle and learn more about each other. FOR members introduced their newest classmates who say they like their new school and feel they are adjusting well and getting involved with the many activities offered at TMS.

Freedom to Read Fifteen Tippecanoe Middle School teachers and staff

shared their love of reading with students in the library as part of the school's celebration of the freedom to

read.

Inferno says Thank You

Thank you to the browsers and shoppers who supported

the first annual used book sale sponsored by Inferno, the high school’s literary magazine. All proceeds benefit the
