SHOP

Industrial Arts Class or “SHOP” is a six week “specials” class. The most important lesson in

Shop class is safety. We spend one week learning about shop safety. Safety is also

reinforced daily. Students will be introduced to several hand tools, a buffing wheel and a

drill press. Basic techniques and practice with these tools is the main application of the

class. Attention to detail and patience are also encouraged. Students will work with 1/8

inch plastic to form various shapes, such as a heart and diamond and projects including a

picture frame and smart phone stand.

MUSIC

6th Grade General Music will comprise of several concepts interlocking and overlapping

throughout the term ranging from the most basic music construction to reading and

performing music. Students will also study the language of music, world music concepts,

and how to understand the sounds of music. We will be using instruments, technology, and

other tools to explore the exciting world of music to meet the National Coalition for Core

Arts Standards (NCCAS) music standards for 6th grade.

HEALTH In 6th grade health, students will be learning a few subjects that will help them with their

transition to junior high school. We start with puberty and the changes that they will be going

through as they continue their journey of adolescence. Students then learn how to be good

communicators and are provided many strategies to avoid conflict with peers, teachers, parents,

etc. We then continue with bullying prevention and how to use communication skills to help avoid and

stop bullying. We end the special with learning about communicable diseases. Students will know

what they are, what types there are, how they are spread, and what they can do to help prevent the

spread of communicable diseases.

HOMEWOOD SCHOOL DISTRICT 153 PARENT PORTAL INFORMATION SHEET

Homewood School District 153 is very excited to offer you an opportunity to become more involved with daily life in our schools through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. The Parent Portal allows easy communication between parents/guardians, students, schools and staff. All you need is access to the internet. Each parent/guardian may set up an individual account. The account will remain active for as long as you have a student enrolled in District 153. All of the District 153 schools allow parents/guardians to view student lunch accounts, fees, bus information, household contact information, immunizations and attendance. In addition, parents/guardians of James Hart students will be able to view the school calendar, announcements and notices, student schedules, to do lists, grades, assignments and reports. Your account will give you access to each student’s information even if you have students enrolled in several schools in our district.

Please do not complete this form if you already have an account. If you have forgotten your username

or password, please click on the orange HELP button on the Parent Portal login screen. You may also email the Parent Portal at: [email protected].

You will receive your Parent Portal key via email ten working days after returning this completed form. If you are returning this form at the beginning of the school year, the turnaround time may be longer due to the volume of requests received at that time.

The Parent Portal account is for parents/guardians only.
