Caleb Morgan begins his sixth season as Head Coach of the Cross Country program and seventh as Track and Field Hed Coach in 2018-19 after a tremendous career as a Flame runner.
Morgan and the running and field programs have taken the NCAA by storm in their first three years of postseason eligibility.
Morgan guided the Lee men’s cross country team to back-to-back-to-back GSC Championships in their first three years of postseason eligibility. The Flames have also won the South Region crown the past two seasons and finished 18th at the NCAA National Championship in 2016 and 28th in 2017. At the end of the 2017 season, Morgan was named the GSC Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season
On the women’s side the Lady Flames also have excelled in the first three years of official NCAA D2 competition. Lee captured its first GSC Championship in 2017 after finishing second in 2015 and 2016. The Lady Flames improved to second in the South Region following third-place finishes the previous two years. The women qualified for the national championship and finished 28th in 2016 and 31st in 2017.
The women’s track and field team won the 2017 and 2018 GSC Championships. Morgan was named GSC Coach of the Year both years and South Region Coach of the Year in 2017. The Lady Flames tied for 43rd at the 2018 NCAA DII Indoor Championships.
On the men’s track side, the Flames took home the team title in 2016 and Morgan was honored with the GSC Men’s Track and Field Coach of the Year award. They scored as a team in each of the last two NCAA DII National Championships. The Flames finished tied for 21st in 2017 and earned its first top-20 finish at No. 19 in 2018.
Morgan coached up Lee’s first Track All-American in Adrian Martin in 2016. Martin took home the honor in both the 100 and 200 meter Dash. She would also qualify for nationals again in 2017 finishing just outside the All-American top eight status in the 100 and 200 meter. Under Morgan’s leadership Lee has had 59 athletes reach All-American status (16 NCAA DII, 38 NCCAA, five NAIA).
Morgan graduated from Lee in the spring of 2011. While at Lee he became the first male to ever qualify and compete in the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Nationals. He also served as team captain for all four years and was a three time outdoor track national qualifier. Morgan had set the school record for the indoor mile (4:17.49), the outdoor 1500m (3.59.03) and the outdoor 800m (1:55.4). His other running achievements include 2012 Tennessee State Half-Marathon Champion (1:14.09) and the 2011 Georgia 10 miler State Champion (53:48).
Morgan is a native of Cleveland, Tenn., and attended Walker Valley High School. He is married to former Lee University runner Kristin Cretton and the couple has two sons, Luke and Eli.
