Lesa Cole, MSN, RN-BC
Lesa graduated from Indiana University with a BSN and went on to
earn her MSN from Walden University. She began her nursing career
in an ICU setting in 1992 and has held positions as a staff nurse in
cardiovascular recovery and perioperative services, case
management, nursing management, and clinical education. She
currently works as a Nursing Professional Development Specialist
with VUMC’s Nursing Education and Professional Development
overseeing the Nurse Residency Program, VESNIP, and Certification
Review Courses; she is also a Contact Hour Nurse Planner. Lesa has
been involved with preceptor development for nearly a decade where
she designed and implemented two preceptor programs. As part of the
Preceptor Treasures team, Lesa draws upon her past experiences as a
preceptor for students, new employees, and graduate students.
Christie El-Shishini, MSN, RN, CPNP
Christie began working at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at
Vanderbilt in 1999. Initially, she was a clinical nurse in pediatric
surgery and trauma, but she then went on to teach in the Pediatric
Nurse Practitioner program at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing
(VUSN). She has also taught pediatrics at Aquinas College School of
Nursing. Christie received her BSN from Spring Hill College in Mobile,
Alabama and her MSN from VUSN. Christie, a Certified Pediatric Nurse
Practitioner, currently works in Nursing Education and Professional
Development within Children’s Hospital. Throughout her nursing
career, Christie has held various roles including precepting acute care
nurses, mentoring nursing students, coaching pediatric nurse
residents, and guiding staff through the Frontline Leadership Program.
Preceptors role in onboarding health care
professionals extends to aiding in the successful
xxxxxxtransition to new work environments, competency
xxxxdevelopment, and even job satisfaction.

Preceptor Treasures focuses on excavating the
hidden talents of the most valued assets in
healthcare through
workshops and support.
We offer two
preceptor-focused workshops open
to all health care professionals (not just nurses) and
to both VUMC staff and non-VUMC staff.
Workshops 1 & 2 are offered monthly, excluding July
