1. AGE?

The people that answered our questionnaire ranged from 16 years old to 63 years old. The responses received from such a diverse age range allowed us to analyse who is the most suitable target audience for the documentary on our chosen topic.

2. WHAT TIME OF DAY ARE YOU MOST LIKELY TO WATCH TV?

This pie chart clearly shows that the majority of people watch television in the evening, with over half of the respondents saying this is when they’re most likely to tune in. However, those that said they watch TV at this time were all under the age of 25, whereas the older generation who will make up our target audience said they watch tv earlier. Therefore, we will consider airing our documentary in an afternoon time slot, to reach out to our specific target audience.

3. WHAT CHANNEL DO YOU TUNE IN TO THE MOST?

These responses show that BBC was the most popular channel among those that took our questionnaire, with channel 4 coming in second. Therefore, we will consider airing our show on one of these channels as evidently they are well known and will help attract many viewers.

4. DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU BOUGHT YOUR CUTLERY FROM?

Most people we asked bought their cutlery from Ikea so we may consider including this department store within our documentary as clearly this is a place people have visited and are familiar with and so may want to find out more about the shop.

5. WHERE WAS YOUR CUTLERY MADE?

One of the most popular answers to this question was ‘unsure’ suggesting that many people are unaware of where there cutlery has came from. Hence, we may include within our documentary where cutlery is made around the world as most people don’t seem to know much about this.

19 people said their cutlery does have a certain design whereas 9 people said theirs doesn’t. As more people said that theirs does, we may include archive footage in our documentary of differently designed knives, forks, spoons etc…

Over 50% of those we asked said they don’t know what their cutlery is made of and so this may be indicative of how some people may find it helpful if we include what materials are used to make cutlery in our documentary

This graph shows that 23 out of 28 people said they don’t buy new cutlery very often. As the majority of people keep the same cutlery for a long time, we may consider including in our documentary why cutlery is so long lasting and what allows us to preserve it for a long period of time.

9. WHEN HAVING DINNER, DO YOU LAY THE TABLE?

When asked this question, 14 people responded yes and the other 14 people responded no, giving an even split. This implicates that on average only 50% of people carry on with this tradition and so we may not include this in our documentary.

10. DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL CUTLERY FOR CERTAIN OCCASIONS?

Our results from this question show that quite a few people do have special cutlery for certain occasions and so this may be something we include within our documentary whether it’s during an interview, in archive footage etc.

25 out of 28 people said they do own a knife block suggesting this is quite a popular kitchen item that may be useful to include in our documentary.

4 people responded ‘yes’ to this question and the remaining 24 responded ‘no’. This implies that a lot of people avoid the use of scissors whilst preparing food so they may not be an interesting point of discussion for our documentary.

Over 75% of people answered no to this question suggesting how most people just stick to using a basic knife and fork. Therefore, our group may consider exploring alternative forms of cutlery in our documentary as clearly this is a topic not many people know much about and may find intriguing.

More people responded yes than no to this question suggesting how the majority of people appreciate free add ons of cutlery. Thus, we may investigate the use of special offers involving cutlery in our documentary.

The above chart reveals how fork was the most popular answer to this question and so we may chose to focus on this piece of cutlery in our documentary as it is the most widely used.

Although most people responded no to this question, a few people did say yes and so this could be a topic explored in our documentary as evidently some people do find other uses for cutlery.

Just over half of people responded yes to this question suggesting how it is likely to gain viewers as many people will find it interesting. However, a number of people did say no and so this means we must ensure to do everything we can to make our product seem interesting and worthwhile and to draw in viewers.

Although 16 people said they wouldn’t watch a documentary about cutlery, those that gave this response tended to be under the age of 25 which is outside of our target audience. Moreover, every person asked this question that is within our target age range said yes implying that the programme will receive viewers, but they will be of an older generation.

Unsurprisingly, only one person claimed to know much about the history of cutlery demonstrating how the vast majority of people do not know anything about this topic. Therefore, we will include in our documentary about the origins of cutlery as clearly it is something that is not well known and perhaps a point of interest.
