THE WILL OF GOD

• God’s intentional will, 1 Tim. 2:4; 2 Pet. 3:9; Gen. 6:5, 13; Matt. 33:37

• God’s ultimate will, Heb. 9:27; book of Rev.

• God’s permissive will, Job 1:6-12; 23:10; Rev. 2:10; 1 Cor. 10:13, 2 Cor. 12:7-10

• Not everything is God’s will, Eccl. 9:11

We believe he doeth all things well.

He is in control of them to the extent that we have explained herein,

• God’s intentional will

• God’s ultimate will

• God’s permissive will

• Not everything is God’s will

2. “What do we expect when we pray?”

Praying for the lost:

• For all men, 1 Tim. 2:1

• For those in government, 1 Tim.2:2

• For the salvation of lost sinners, Rom. 10:1

• For their health, Acts 28:8,9

4. ‘Is attendance commanded? Should we come to both the a.m. and p.m. services on Sunday? Can one miss the a.m. service so that he can take part in a sporting event that is being put on for a good cause and just come to the p.m. service? Is one service a ‘can’t miss’ service? What about tardiness?’ Heb. 10:25; 2:3; Mk. 16:16; 1 Pet. 1:9; 1 Cor. 1:18

7:11, Now if there was perfection through the Levitical priesthood...

7:28, …Word of the oath, which was after the law, appointeth a Son, perfected for evermore.

Perfection in the Book of Hebrews:

9:9, …Sacrifices that cannot, as touching the conscience, make the worshipper perfect.

9:11, ...Through the greater and more perfect tabernacle...

10:1, …Can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect them that draw nigh.

10:14, For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

11:40, …That apart from us they should not be made perfect.

Perfection in the Book of Hebrews:

12:2, Looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith...

12:23, …And to the spirits of just men made perfect.

13:21, Make you perfect in every good thing...

Perfection in the Book of Hebrews:

Lk. 8:14, And that which fell among the thorns, these are they that have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

Those failing to go on to perfection in the book of Hebrews were admonished about:

• Being neglectful of the great salvation, 2:3

• Being irregular in their attendance, 10:25

Matt. 6:25, Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment?

• God will provide food and clothing, vs. 26, 28-30

• God knows your needs (omniscience), v. 32

Since the life is more than food and the body more than raiment, what is God’s purpose for one’s life and body?

Matt. 6:33, But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Contrast:

• Seek first sports (bowling, golf, baseball, etc.)

• Seek first travel

• Seek first hobbies (coin collecting, wood working, etc.)

• Seek first recreation (T.V., movies, hiking, etc.)

2 Tim 3:4, …Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.
