CoversFirstly, looking at the Preliminary Task we can see that the appearance of it isn't good and probably wouldn't attract anyone's real attention. The front used on the coverlines an with the main title lacks originality and doesn't really promote the magazine as a brand, more like a information leaflet. Whereas, the Main Task Cover presents several different, quirky fonts to help it stand out. The colour of ‘The Crescent” is in black as well which is not clear to see against the background but the indigo text of “Indigo” stands out.

The cover star also wouldn't interest any audiences as he is just stood against a brick wall not doing anything however Indigo’s cover star shows the status of the character himself by pushing his guitar out.

Lastly, the coverlines of the Preliminary Task do not stand out at all and are very brief as they do not tell much information about the article therefore audiences wouldn't be intrigued to go and read them whereas Indigo’s coverines and headlined with the bold text of the bands and artists and each have a brief line underneath introducing thee article to grab the readers attention

Contents PageThe contents page of the Preliminary Task was very poor in my opinion, apart from the picture of the exterior of the college. As you can see the content of the Preliminary Task seriously lacks compared to the contents of the main task as there is only 7 articles in the entire magazine.

The presentation of the Preliminary is also very dull and would not attract anyone as the font is very generic and the pictures don’t loo interesting whereas the pictures in Indigo do. The pictures themselves don't have any page numbers on also which means that they don't link with any articles.

Lastly, the Preliminary is also absent from any colour scheme which epitomises the lack of originality or brand image that I refereed to with the cover whereas the Indigo magazine has dominant,eye-catching colours to really stand out from other magazines

AnalysisLooking at the appearance of the Preliminary Task it is clear to tell that its not up to standard by along stretch. However, this was before I learnt how to use the software's efficiently, Photoshop and Quark. Previously, I had never used the softwares before or used any of thee tools to create the Preliminary Task. In my opinion, I feel that the Preliminary Task shows my understanding of each feature of a magazine and the layout of where they should be but obviously the presentation was below par.

Comparing it to the main task I feel like I have shown that I understand the features and layout of a magazine and can present it in an efficient way. I have understood that originality is key and to not use generic text or lack of any real colour schemes or eye-catching presentation.

I have also learnt a lot on the construction of the task itself using different tools effectively and adapting to the process of my preliminary to create something lot more up to standard.
