Initial preliminary front cover and content page In general my initial preliminary magazine haven’t showed a lot of

Photoshop skills particularly on the front cover, I think I can make a lot of improvement on both front page and content page. Moreover the magazine do not really appeal to the target audience of the school magazine (The target audience are mostly year 7-13 students) as the magazine do not have any colourful coverlines and masthead which can attract the target audience. In terms of this I could add more images of the school on the page so that the cover page may appeal to the audience. Furthermore, the front page and content page looks really simplistic because it is still part of an informed school magazine, therefore the format and the layout of the magazine should look slightly sophisticated; however, as the magazine is also for lower year student to read, so that I might need to add some colour in it to make the front cover look more attractive.

Aspects I wanted to change/improve For the masthead on the front page, it doesn’t look very special enough to

get the audience’s attention, I may need to find another font type and change the style of the masthead.

I think the size of the coverlines is not big enough and it doesn’t look attractive in terms of the colour of the coverlines, therefore I might need to add colour and effect by using the blending option in Photoshop.

As there are still some spaces on the cover page, I could add some images or pictures for example the logo of Ratcliffe College so that it can gives out a sophisticated ideology of education.

On the content I may add an introduction on each of the story so that the readers can know more about the story and there will not be spaces within the page

I want to make the websit and the page number in bold so that it can be more easy to see.

What I have changed I have added a skyline at the top of the magazine as it is one of the

convention of magazine I have changed the font type in house style and painted in blue, which

connotes Ratcliffe college. I have added different colour on the coverlines and also I have used

blending option to put some effects for example stroke and drop shadow, which makes the coverlines stand out as well as attract the audience’s attention.

I have add the logo of Ratcliffe College at the bottom left corner so that it looks more realistic as a school magazine.

I have edit the background image of Peter by decrease the brightness and contrast so he looks slightly pale, which connotes the pure and he is confident as a GCSE 11A* student.

What I have changed I have added introduction on every stories on the content page, so

that the readers will know what is the story about. I have added some blue stroke on the images as it connotes the

school I have also make the website and the page number in bold so that it

can be easily to read. I have add drop shadow on the headmaster’s quote, so that it

connotes the message is very important to every student in the school.

I have erase the word ‘Exclusive’ as I think it is not suitable for a school magazine and it doesn’t look realistic as a school magazine.

What I could improve Although I have coloured masthead and coverlines, but I think I could add

more image on the front cover so that it can attract the audience’s attention rather than only having the main story on the page. On the other hand for the content page, I could add more text on the introduction, so that the readers can get more information about the stories. Moreover for the headline I could change the font into other font type such as house style, so that it could appeal to the audience as part of them are fox thinker as well as unsophisticated. Furthermore I could also improve the mise-en-scene for example the cast, location and the setting, as I have only had a student in front of the whit wall, which doesn’t really show the school life in Ratcliffe, therefore I could use images for example people learning and listening what teacher were saying, which connotes positive ideology of educating and enjoyable school life. Overall I will need to improve my idea for the product (Include the preliminary) and my skills in InDesign and Photoshop as I know I am bad at it and I still got a lot to improve. Hopefully for A2 I can improve a lot.

Page 9: Question 7 F

Compare to my magazine I have made the preliminary task on Photoshop which

is the same that I have used for my magazine, also in terms of the effects on the page, I have used blending option such as drop shadow and stroke. Also for the image of Peter (The main focal image) I have slightly adjusted the image with increase of brightness and decrease of contract within the image, which I have also used this on Alina’s image. However as it is a preliminary task that I was to practice and prepare for the actual production of my magazine, I didn’t use any special font type for the headline and the coverlines, but I have used a house style font type for the masthead which I think it might be able to attract audience’s attention.
