From my preliminary task compared to my final piece there is a variety of improvements I've learnt as the course has progressed. The overall layout and presentation of my work had improved and appears more professional, due to my increased skills in using Adobe Indesign and photoshop. I learnt how I can manipulate my images as all the images featured have been edited to change their brightness/contrast. This compares to my Preliminary task, where I left the majority of the photos untouched as I was not capable of changing their appearance, however by my final piece the quality of image had increased and I was able to manipulate them to appear more professional whilst fitting the colour scheme of my magazine. For example on my contents page I altered one of the images of my model with a guitar to have a gray-scale effect, which added an edge to the page. Compared to my preliminary task, I have included a wider range of colours and matched my images to my colour scheme rather than using a random combination. I have now also learnt how to effectively contrast bright, bold images to grayscale images whilst still catching the audiences attention.

Looking back at my preliminary I can see obvious improvements. The images I taken were not particularly well staged and often the models looked quite uncomfortable and I did not take into much consideration the shot, location or costume. From my preliminary I also learnt the significance of a frequent colour scheme, as the colour scheme of my preliminary task was limited and looked dull and plain which obviously would not attract my target audience. In additon to this I also recognised the importance of a professional layout of my contents page, as the one included in my initial task looks simple yet unconventional, as there are limited page numbers, no captions, or editors note. From this when I created my contents page I bared a lot of consideration to where I positioned images, text and columns to look more concise and accessible to an audience. Since working on this preliminary task, I have developed a greater understanding on how to use Photoshop and Indesign. For example, now I am able to make font appear more striking and eye-catching through the use of innershdow and drop-shadow.

From looking at my preliminary task, I can also acknowledge my more developed use of different techniques which enabled me to create an on the whole better product. From my inital test I have also discovered how to add strokes around images to create a clean-cut border, as opposed to my preliminary task where it is evident I just cut around the image using an eraser. As shown in this presentation it is evident I have progressed throughout my course as a result of my research of studying other magazines and their conventional uses of form, structure and content, which ensured I was able to produce a much more professional piece that corresponds to a higher-standard of product.
