QUESTION 7:

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you

feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the

full product?

PRELIMINARY TASK AND THINGS

THAT I HAVE LEARNT

The preliminary task we did was very straightforward and easy to do because each of us in our

group has to have a go at filming, acting and editing. As a result of that, I have learnt that I was not

good at panning the camera as it was quite rough, how to edit small clips into a whole clip, shot

reverse shot, match on action and 180 degree rule. While I was filming. I took a long shot of a

person walking down the corridor as a starter. Then used a close up shot to show the match on

action rule and to see which hand he was using. When both of them were having a conversation, I

used a shot reverse shot when the other person was sat in a chair opposite to the other person. By

doing this, it should show the continuity task that we were asked to do. After filming it, I edited the

short clips that I filmed and put it all together in a large video by using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. I

make sure that the timing between a person walking down the corridor and opening the door

should match.

HOW DID IT HELP WITH MY MAIN

PRODUCTION

The preliminary task helped me by using the same software for

editing the clips we took into a whole video and add some transitions

to make the clips flow smoothly with each other. I have learnt

different shot types, angles and techniques which we used on our

media product to make our film opening look interesting. And also I

know what to look out for like using the microphone, we have to

make sure that it isn’t included in the video.

DURING OUR PRELIMINARY TASK

The things that I found easy was most of the filming process apart from

panning it quickly and editing the clips by putting them all together and added

some transitions. And while I was acting, I did not laugh which is good for me

because the roles are not supposed to be funny. I did not get the microphone in

the video which one of our group got included on her video. The only thing I

know that I have to improve on is to pan it slowly and smoothly.

HOW EXPERIENCES INFLUENCE/HELP

OUR FILM OPENING

We did not do much sound editing during our preliminary task so when we

adjusted the sound like normalising it was a new skill for me but when added

some effects or transitions to the sounds so it fits in was quite a hard for me at the

start but I have picked up now. As a whole group learnt, I have learnt about the

communication between us all was good because when we had problems and

needs to think of new ideas for our film, we came up with it and helping each

other out. We discuss and decide things as a group instead of doing separate

things.
