Question 6

Page 2: Question 6

We planned to shoot our movie opening around 4:30 – 5:00, we decided on this time because it was mid winter so there would have been very little light out and make it look low-key and as if it was late night.

We thought about the limitations of time we had to film successful shots in these hours so we actually film during school hours around noon . This did not affect our piece negatively as we were able to darkern the lighting give the night time effct

However, we found lighting a problem when it came to our montage shots, we didn’t want the room to be high key as if would deminish the anxiety we wanted our shot to produce. After many practices with torches, phones and laps we found the perfect lighting. The perfect light was from a camping lamp. It kept elements of the lowkey lighting which our genre is known for yet it showed the important details clear for the audience to see.

We got used to the camera hardware during our prelim task, because the cameras were used by many students we found that the battery was very low most of the time. To overcome this we decided to use Caitlins own personal camera as it was the same as the schools but we could control the usage and it would always be available when we needed it.

We experimented a great deal when it came to our practice of the opening. We wanted to give our self a lot of material to choose from, for example we tried shots our doors and indoors, a variety of shot types, angles and lighting. From this we saw what style would suit the shots best and would be most affective.

We experimented with:

Zooming

High key

Low key

Close ups

Extreme close ups

Long shots

panning

We learnt that you cannot always film what you initially plan because sometimes your ideas so not suit your opening which means you have to re-think and re-fil. We tended to try a variety of shots on the day if one failed to see how we can improve.

The whole filming process allowed us to learn about the fragility of some of the hardware equiptment.

When filming the shots of the montage they would be extremely shakey and even though this is typical for our genre it did not look professional so we opted to use a tripod to steady our shots.

As a group we learn a lot of valuable things from this project and all feel confident if we had to use these technologies again.
