HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?

JEROME BONUS

Page 2: QUESTION 5

From my research i was able to find out how other professional magazines use conventions to attract the audience. Therefore i chose to present the masthead at the top of the magazine in a urban type of font which is similar to existing music magazines

as the masthead is presented at the top of the magazine to make it clear to the audience what the name of the magazine is. I also used a large dominant icon which makes the title of

the magazine clear to the audience. In terms of having USP the price of the magazine will be £2.00 which is affordable for my target audience as it isn’t too much or too less. The price is

displayed in a small font at the bottom left side of the magazine which shows that its not as important as the main

subject of the magazine but is still noticeable to the audience. I used a close up/mid shot of the model which can easily be seen and it entices the audience as the model is in eye contact. I got this idea from other existing magazines as they also use close

ups and mid shots.

The colour scheme is in three colours, orange, white and black. Depending on the genre of the magazine you can use as many colours as you want, however in mine I wanted to use simple but unique colours as it gives the magazine a urban type of

atmosphere. The effect this has on my young audience is that they will be attracted by the use of cool colours. Similar to

professional magazines, they consist of a list of artists on the sell lines to give the audience a sense of what is inside the

magazine. The sell lines in my magazine also consist of important information such as other artist's names which can be teaser to the audience as they would want to know what is

inside the magazine.

Also i used a button to highlight a competition whereby anyone could have a chance to win tickets to a live event. Most

magazines do this to entice the reader as they like to take part in competitions to win something that they’re very interested in. Like other magazines I used a quote right next to his name

which is effective as it makes it clear to the audience that those are his inspirational words. Not forgetting the barcode

which every magazine has, is placed at the bottom right of the page.

The language used in my magazine is not too formal just basic in order for the target audience to understand. Most magazines have a slogan, therefore i decided to add this to my magazine which is “Turn the volume up!”. In my research i looked at different magazines in inspiration to my magazine. This gave me an idea of the layout of

my magazine in terms of where to position the main images and where to place the conventions and texts.

In my magazine i used a different range of fonts to show a variety which makes it more appealing to the reader. For most of the fonts used in my magazine i tried to create a urban type of effect. Also most magazines start with a big font for the title and gets small as you go down the page which is key to use in my magazine as it keeps the

audiences eyes on the main subject of the magazine which is usually presented in a bigger font to the others.

I looked at examples of professional magazines and the location they use to take their picutres. From doing this i found out that they use either a external or internal location, therefore in my magazine i experimented with my photographs in both external and internal locations. The internal location was just indoors where i could find a white background in order for the model to stand out more in the frame. In the external location i went to brick lane which is a brilliant place full of art work and is definitely a great place to take pictures. Due to the fact that

there were a lot of art work in brick lane i chose to take my pictures where there were graffiti pantings as it gives the image an urban type of atmosphere.

In terms of mise on scene the props used in my magazine is simply just headphones to represent it is a music magazine and the style of clothing which relates to the genre of UK Garage. The clothing of my models show a

stereotype of what young teenagers usually wear which is important as they feel more engaged.
