Evaluation Question 4By George Ring

Page 2: Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning stages?

Page 3: Question 4

The different types of Technologies:

Technologies were the most common aspect of all of the work I have done through G324. Without the advanced technologies which we use today, I would not have been able to create a Music Video in the way that I did. Nor would I have been able to complete the Research and Planning stages of my project. There was a range of different technologies which I used, including Hardware, Software and Online technology.

All of these pieces of technology worked hand in hand in my work, during the planning and the creating of my video. For example, I used YouTube to publish the work which I filmed on a Camera and edited on a Software.

Hardware – Nikon D3200 I decided to stick to my own personal camera, a Nikon

D3200 as I have already used it over the past two years. I have owned this camera since G321, and have been able to learn a range of different features to do with it. I feel like it was easier to do this as appose to changing a camera and having to learn it all over again.

I was not restricted to when I could film as the camera was my personal one and enabled me to use it both at College and at home.

This camera is capable of filming in HD, which means that the quality is of the highest standard for YouTube. I use this camera a lot in Photography and therefore I am able to use it to produce high quality images for my Ancillary Tasks (my poster and digipak).

Apple iMac I have been using Apple iMacs for over 5 years now and I

know how to use all of the software on them. I feel like they are more advanced and it is easy to spread my work across all Apple devices due to them being compatible.

I used an iPad, iMac and also a Macbook Pro when editing my music video and constructing it. It has all the software which I needed and meant that I could do every aspect of my project in one place.

The only problem I had with using these computers was that my computer at college was of an older software version and therefore it did not open some of the files that I needed. As a result of this, I needed to transfer all of my files onto a harddrive.

Software - Adobe In my Production aspect of my work, I used Premier Pro. The

reason for this was because I used it last year and I was able to develop my work as I already knew how to use it correctly. During the project, I used features on there such as a Warp Stabliser. This enabled all of my shots to be steady.

I used Premier Pro when completing my lip sync, as I was able to lay the music over the top of the footage and get it almost perfect. As a result of this, it enables me to give the effect that my actor is singing in time with the song.

Indesign was trialled in order to construct my Digipak and single cover. However, I found it too challenging and it did not enable me the creative scope which I needed in order to create one of my choosing. Eventually, I decided to use Photoshop to create my Digipak as I already understood how to use the software to my full advantage.

YouTube YouTube was the site I chose to showcase my

finished music video. The reason I chose to upload my work to YouTube and not others was because it is the most visited website of all time, with over 1 billion monthly views. It also enables me to track how my video is performing, and compare it to other music videos using the same song.

Some people came into problem with using YouTube as artists have published copyright to their song and ban anybody else that attempts to use it. Personally, I managed to upload mine under ‘Educational Purposes’ with minimal hassle.

Blogger Blogger was my biggest platform for both G321

and G324, this is because it is the home for all of the work I have completed over the past two years. By using Blogger, I am able to upload my work, label it so that it is all in one place, and also keep a constant view on what I have done and what is left.

Blogger was the greatest technology I used through both of the years in which I studied Media, this is because I was able to keep organised. All of my work was in the same place, and it all links to my research and planning.

How have you progressed since AS? Since AS media, I have progressed as I have trialled

new technologies and also made a video which I didn’t think I was capable of. By using Premier Pro, I geared away from adding non-diegetic sounds and instead using a soundtrack to link to the clips. I am now able to match sound with lip syncing, while I also have a basic knowledge in a new software such as inDesign.

In the future, I wish to extend my knowledge even further and use a range of different Hardware. This will include me recording using separate sound and video recorders and widening my skills in producing different mediums.
