Evaluation Question 2 - How effective is the combination of your main

product and ancillary text?

Page 2: Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?

Points to consider?• Consistent colour schemes and imagery

across all texts?• Thematic consistency?• Artists representation? • Similar Fonts?

Page 3: Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?

Music Video - (Fire Scene)

• The fire scene represents the emotion of the song and the actresses pain. The fire being the colour red is symbolic for strong emotions such as love, hate and anger. All of these themes are discussed during the lyrics of the song and thats why I thought it was important.

• The imagery is very abstract as the fire is being projected on to the actress. She is the eye of the storm and her movements and facial expressions give us a further idea of what she is going through. As my song is highlights common issues facing todays society, the viewer may well feel a connection with the actress.

Music Video - (Woodland Scene)

• Alongisde the fire scenes, a woodland scene is shown where we see the actress in a different environment. This time she is in different clothes and a different surrounding environment. The clothes she is wearing are important as they are less provocative than the previous scene and show that she is just a normal girl, relatable to the audience.

• The natural setting is constant with the videos theme, about restoring your inner happiness which you left behind for a ‘materilistic’ love.

• The ‘sepia’ effect not yet used in the video gives it a timed effect and also gives the shot more emotion, because of the different colours we are only focusing on her and her performance. Her performance is less angry than the fire scene, we see a more calm character.

Music Video - (Path through the overgrowth)

• This short but effective shot is shown during the songs first chorus. It shows the girl walking through a path surrounded by tress and overgrown hedges, portraying her ‘overbearing’ lifestyle.

• This shot is one of the only shots to be put in slow motion, the effect gives an emotional touch because it gives us the feel of her walking away from her troubles, we are happy and there is some essence of character development which the audience are rooting for.

Music Video - (Smoke Scene)

• One of the final shots is of our actress standing in the middle of a field as a red flare burns up in front of her. The red as I have said before stands for the strong emotions while ‘flares’ themselves are used for calling for help and desperate situations. This makes this one of the most emotional shots in the video, she is calling for help but no one is listening.

• This is the calmest we see our actress at, she is no longer singing the words and the music begins to fade out, it is also in slow motion which allows us to get a good look at the artist effect of the smoke, it is smothering her and is very symbolic.

Single Cover • This my single cover for my

digipak. The cover was shot in my back garden and features the same actress who appears in the music video. This was important as it gives a sense of continuity, the public will recognise the girl from the video and will associate her with the song.

• The photo is taken in a bathtub with the water dyed a light blue and on the surface of the water are floating flowers. Despite the blue water contrasting with the red/orange colours in the video, the characters orange cloak and the red flowers are highlighted more easily.

Poster• This is my poster, the image was

an outtake taken from the digipak photoshoot. I decided to use this because it provides continuity between the two which makes it more recognisable for consumers.

• She is holding a red flower in this shot, the colour red is a big factor in this project due to the feelings and emotions it projects.

• The fonts between the digipak and the poster are identical. This gives it some recognisability and the artist an individual style which could be helpful with future releases. The font automatically associated with the artist.
