Page 1: Question 2

Evaluation Question 2 How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media product represents particular social groups because they may be able to empathise with my character, also they may be familiar with any areas seen in my thriller opening. My thriller opening represents young females and males of all races; I have shown this by the characters I have used.

The social groups I have aimed to represent are working/middle-class people as the storyline is suitable and understandable for both classes. There interests may be socialising with friends, going

to the cinema and watching films with their friends, also playing sports in their free time such as football, basketball and more. My thriller opening represents these social groups as I have aimed to

explore and represent them in my media product. The media often represents females in thriller films as being vulnerable and in the need of being

rescued.

Woman are presented as vulnerable and weak in my thriller film, and this partially supports the stereotype of females in thriller films. In many thriller films women are presented as the weaker sex who is usually rescued my a male who is seen as heroic. This is because my female character faces abuse and fear as at first she is unaware she is being stalked and when she is attacked, she is weak

and vulnerable and unable to fight back. My thriller opening also represents modern, stylish teenagers. My female character is dressed in clothes which teenagers of today wear; jeans and a top. She is not overdressed and her clothes are not revealing, which represents some adolescents today.

Page 2: Question 2

My female character Chellsee Young represents a social group; young people and teenagers. She also represents a variety of races, although she is of a Caribbean background, Caribbean young females may relate to her more however. My female character is similar to Camilla Belle

from ‘When a Stranger Calls’, this is because they both face danger, vulnerability and loneliness.Camilla Bell also has a stranger stalking her who at first she is unaware of. Both female characters

are similar ages and dress relatively the same.
