Education serves not only to develop one's intelligence and skills, but also helps to broaden one's outlook and make one useful to society and the world at large. This is possible only when cultivation of character is promoted along with education in the physical science. Moral Education at home and at school will train a man to lead a disciplined life. True education makes a person compassionate and humane. Spontaneous sympathy and regard for all being should flow from the heart of one who is properly educated. He should be keen to serve society rather than be pre-occupied with his own acquisitive aspirations. This should be the real purpose of education in its true sense.

THE AIM OF EDUCATION

TO STUDENTYou must feel that study is your first and only duty. Try to identify the one in the many; become strong, physically, mentally and spiritually; cultivate the skills by which you can serve the society. As a first step in your education, you must serve your parents and must have gratitude and love towards them.

You are the custodians of culture, the earliest teachers and you have to instill virtue in your chi ldren. Do not set bad examples for your children. If you are truthful, just, calm and full of love in your dealings with others, your children too, will grow accordingly. Parents must correct themselves before they correct their children.

INTRODUCTION :

The growing need for an English medium school, left unfulfilled by the limited capacity of existing English medium schools necessitated the birth of Gyanoday Niketan. The school was opened on 3rd October 1988 with the express purpose of imparting education in the pattern prescribed by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi and inculcating in its pupils the basic values of education, etiquette and morality.

Gyanoday Niketan is situated at the scenic locales of Shyam Cottage and it commands a panoramic view of the majestic Himalayan range and offers its students the seclusion and quietude required for the all round development of their moral, mental and educational make up. The school building looks across the intervening hills and deep valley to the vast Kanchenjunga range forty miles away.

In keeping with the school motto “Quest for Knowledge”, Gyanoday Niketan strives to quench the students' thirst for knowledge. In ordinary, everyday life in the school, as elsewhere, there are plenty of opportunities for a student to try into practice the aim and motto of the school. Moreover, there are also those more spectacular opportunities for unselfish service that occur in a country like India, through a variety of outdoor programmes the students are encouraged to learn by practical experiences. Community service and the nation building programmes are an integral part of the school programmes.

The school also makes valiant efforts to direct the students' abundant energy towards meaningful and fruitful pursuits, thereby producing children who will, in future, continue to uphold the true values of life and grow into upright and able bodied citizens willing to take on the vicissitudes of fortune and forever walk on the straight and narrow path of life.
