- Queensland is believed to have been discovered by the Aboriginals thousands of years prior to European Settlement

- These stories are passed down through legends and myths of the Dream Time.- There are sites that have been dated back to being 15, 000 to 30, 000 years old- Queensland was first seen by European Dutch Explorers William Jansz and Jan

Carstens. They first made contact with land at the Gulf of Carpentaria in 1606- Cook is known to be the first European to encounter Queensland’s East Coast in

1770 in his HMS endeavour - At first it was part of the New South Wales colony which at the time was

occupied by a large part of the Australian continent- Brisbane was established in 1825 for the more intractable convicts.- In 1839 the settlement was closed and the land was for sale for permanent

settlement.
