April 10, 2016 3rd Sunday of Easter

As we listen to the Scripture Readings for the Easter season, we see a change taking place in the Apostles. They no longer were the timid, frightened men who wanted to escape being recognized as one of Jesus’ disciples. Now they appear to be bold and courageous men. They preached the message of Jesus openly and with no reservations.

Even when they were told to stop preaching by the Sanhedrin they listened only to the voice of God and continued to carry out speaking in Jesus’ name. They came to understand and believe the sacrifice Jesus made by dying on the cross. They were energized by His Resurrection and were willing to give witness to the events that had taken place regarding Jesus. As we look at ourselves, How has the Resurrection of Jesus changed us? Have we been more responsive in reaching out to the poor and needy? Are we developing a deeper relationship with the Lord? Are we trying to make a difference in the world by being witnesses to our faith? If we can’t respond positively to these questions, then let us take the opportunity we have in the weeks ahead to ponder and reflect on how we might become better examples of our faith to one another.

Thanks to all who participated in the Divine Mercy Holy Hour last Sunday. It was a spiritual and uplifting celebration that helped us to focus on God’s mercy and compassion during this Jubilee Year of Mercy.

Thank you also to Bishop Alberto Rojas for celebrating Confirmation last Friday. It was a wonderful culmination in the preparation of our students by our teachers and catechists to receive this sacrament. The Bishop challenged and encouraged our young men and women to live their faith fully and to use the gifts of the Holy Spirit wisely.

We congratulate our teens from Queen of Martyrs Youth Ministry Program who will receive their Youth Leadership Award from Vicariate V—Meg Barron, Katie Carey, Maddie Chichon, Gavin Flynn, Tim Hogan, Andrew Lis, Mallory McNulty, Brendan Reidy, Katie Sebok, Addie Smith and Megan Sullivan. We are grateful for your time, talent and treasure you give to our parish community.

Don’t forget, next Sunday is our School and Parish Spring Fundraiser at Gaelic Park from 2:00—7:00PM. We are counting on your presence and support in helping to make this event a success. Raffle tickets and Entrance tickets are still available. Continue to spread the word. Looking forward to seeing you there. As a result of our Fundraiser, there will be no 4:00PM Mass on Sunday next week.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

“I come from God; hence, I belong to God. I am destined for God, who is not only my Creator and my Master, but also my last end. Thus my end is to know God, to love God, to serve God.” (St. Ignatius of Loyola) As we begin the 3rd week of Easter, are you continuing to know, love, and serve God in your daily activities?

Queen of Martyrs Adoration Chapel of Divine Mercy

Three times Jesus

asked St. Peter, “Do you love Me?”

(John 21:17) St. Peter’s final response was: “Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You.” Do you tell Our Lord that you love Him? Tell Him often during Eucharistic Adoration. He is waiting to hear from you. We are seeking faithful committed adorers. Will you be one? Sign up at the Adoration Chapel or for more information call Marion at (708) 424-8433.

"Women of the Word" presents

Women of the Bible We discussed the two famous sisters of the Bible - Mary and Maratha! Are you a Maratha or a Mary or a li le bit of both? We want to worship, spend me with Jesus, and pray like Mary, but the Maratha inside us keeps bossing us around. How do we find the balance to live like Mary in a Maratha world? We thought a good start would be to try to spend me each day with just Jesus, either at home, outside in nature, the Adora on chapel, church or anyplace that brings us quietness. When we stay connected to Jesus, we bring our "Mary" into our Maratha world and feel peace, joy and contentment despite the busyness and distrac ons. We have our last study of the year on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 10:00-11:00 am or Monday evening from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Women’s Ministry Room located in the Convent at 10240 S. St. Louis. We will be discussing Elizabeth. All are welcome! Join us for a me of learning, laughing, and sharing.

“What an experience! I did not know what to expect. At first I was nervous & excited at the same time. I was also happy that my daughter asked me to join her, especially since this was her first trip away from home. So many blessings throughout the trip; seeing the

young women and men give so much of themselves both physically and spiritually. They were encouraging each other & gave 110% of themselves the whole trip. They worked hard and yet managed to have many fun times. I never heard a negative word from any of them. For myself, I pushed myself harder than I have for a long time. I helped demo a house, fill dumpsters and my greatest moment of stepping out of my comfort zone, making the hike up to the waterfall. Beautiful. Mary told me the hike to the waterfall was the highlight of the trip, however, for me, it was Friday evening. All of us together at the lake, grilling, swimming, and enjoying ourselves. Father Kevin said a beautiful Mass overlooking the mountains and lake. I will never forget it. It was a privilege to be here and thank you for letting me be part of it. Lastly, to all the chaperones, youth leaders, and teens: It was fantastic getting to know you. You are all amazing. Tina was nonstop from morning to night. Always calm, in charge, but fun. An amazing young woman and I’m so happy my daughter has her as an example of how to really live. God has been with us all week and will always be there for us. Thank you God!” -–Peg (Mission Trip Chaperone)

Queen of Martyrs 5th Grade Presents The Living Stations

On March 23rd, Mrs. Kirkland’s and Mr. Langevin’s, students reenacted The Living Stations for parents, parishioners, student body and staff. The 5th Graders used words and actions to depict Christ’s path to Calvary. The students also presented modern day situations that our youth encounter. They compared how Jesus handled his suffering with their reactions to difficulties in their daily lives. The students discussed realistic solutions to answer the question “What Would Jesus Do?” The students dressed in modern day clothing and costumes that depicted the period of time that Jesus walked the Way of the Cross. The beautiful presentation reminded everyone of the love that Jesus has for each of us! A big thank you to the 5th Grade students and their teachers, as their beautiful presentation helped us to focus on our Faith and prepare us to celebrate Easter!

To Fr. Ed, Queen of Martyrs School, Parish and Community: The Family of Brendan Patrick Burke deeply appreciates the love and support shown each of us during our time of sorrow. Your kindness, prayers, and sympathy will long be remembered with deep gratitude.
