If you received a pension from another country during the year, you have to include the total amount of your pension with your income tax return. The amount of your pension that you list for your income tax return must be listed in Canadian dollars. Attach a note with your income tax return that specifies the type of pension you received and the country that it came from. Part of your foreign pension may be non-taxable income if the country you receive your pension from has a tax treaty with Canada (an agreement between the two countries that prevents a person from paying tax twice on the same income). If you paid taxes on your foreign pension, you may be eligible for a foreign tax credit. However it is important to NOT subtract any tax from your income when you report it.
