Run for Autism-2016
World Autism Awareness Day is observed on April 2, 2016 every year.
Autism organisations around the world celebrate the day with unique
awareness raising events. It’s a day for Children with Autism as well as
others to participate in the awareness campaigning activities and make a

difference to the lives of Autistic people across our nation. The NSS Cell of
Bharathidasan University in association with the Dolphin Special School &
Centre and TOSS and Child Development Committee organised a mini
Marathon event on 02.04.2016 to raise awareness about Autism in
Tiruchirapalli District.
The marathon was flagged off by Mr. R. Sakthivel, Deputy
Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Trichy City in the presence of Dr.
A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Programme Coordinator, Bharathidasan
University, Rtn. Allirani Balaji of Child Development Committee and other
dignitaries at Thennur Anna Nagar. Nearly 100 Autistic children, 150 other
special children and around 1000 college students including 500 NSS
Volunteers took part in the event. Prizes were distributed at the end of the
event.

Oath and Signature Campaign for Polling
The NSS Cell in association with the District administration organised
various programmes for the University staff and students to cast their vote
during the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2016. On 13.05.2016, an oath
taking programme and a signature campaign was organised at the
university campus. The Tiruchirappalli District Collector, Mr. K.S.
Palanisamy administered the oath to the university staff and the students.
The main aim of the programme was to cast the vote without getting any
monetary benefits from the political parties and their candidates.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Dr. V.M. Muthukumar, Registrar,
Dr. C. Thiruchelvam, Controller of Examinations, Dr. R. Thirumurugan,
Finance Officer, Mr. K. Balakrishnan, NSS Programme Coordinator, Dr. A.
Lakshmi Prabha, Deputy Controller of Examinations, NCC Officer, Director
of Centre for Distance Education, Heads of various departments, Professors,
administrative staff of the university, students and others participated in the
programme.
Oath was administered by the District Collector to the Staff and Students of the University
District Collector and the Vice-Chancellor putting their signatures
International Yoga Day
A brief report on the celebration of International Yoga Day is given
below:
1. NSS Cell, Bharathidasan University
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised a one day
training of Yoga for the NSS Volunteers on 21st June 2016 in the University
campus as part of the celebration of International Day of Yoga. The

inauguration of the yoga programme was held in the Convocation Hall of the
University.
During the inauguration programme, Dr. M. Anusuyadevi
Jayachandran, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Biochemistry,
Bharathidasan University welcomed the gathering. Dr. C. Thiruchelvam,
Registrar, Bharathidasan University inaugurated the programme and
delivered the presidential address. During his address he said “Yoga is
originated from India before 5000 years. Yoga was invented by Pathanjali
guru. Yoga integrates mind, body and soul. Yoga creates harmony between
mankind and nature. Yoga reduces Stress.”
Dr. S. Sekar, Syndicate Member of Bharathidasan University offered
felicitation. Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS Coordinator of Bharathidasan
University proposed the Vote of Thanks. Professors from various
departments, administrative staff and others participated in the
inauguration programme.
After the inauguration programme the Yoga Expert, Alambattipudur
Yogashri Mr. Ramasamy from Sri Sankara College of Yoga and Naturopathy,
Sannasipatti, Trichy demonstrated the Yoga and trained the NSS Volunteers
with various asanas. Around 300 NSS Volunteers (both male and female)
from several colleges in the Trichy city attended the training programme.

2. Holy Cross College, Trichy
On 21.06.2016 the NSS wing, NCC & Department of Physical Education of Holy Cross College, Trichy jointly organised and celebrated the International Day of Yoga. The chief guest was Ms. Kiruthiga, B.A., B.L,
Additional Session Court Judge, Trichy. She spoke on the significance of yoga in our daily life. On this day 3500 students and staff of Holy Cross
College, Tiruchirappalli had made World Record to show their World Yoga integrity. 3500 students including NSS volunteers sitting in the pattern of Chin Mudra, meditating with their eyes closed for exactly 30 minutes
without any movement in the body. The judges were Mr. Ganesan and Dr. Asokan of Pathanjali Book of Yoga, Trichy. At the end of the programme World Record Certificate was given by the judges and certificates were
distributed to the students.

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is
observed on 26th June of every year. The NSS units of various colleges
under the Bharathidasan University’s jurisdiction observed the day with
various awareness programmes like rallies, distributing pamphlets, etc.
