Features:

1. Reliable and Proven Design:

LM MCCB has proven performance record in most stringent operating environment.LM has been most preferred in applications like steel, power, paper, chemicaland textile plants. It is best suited for tropical Indian condition and its wideterminals are suited for aluminium conductors. High Breaking capacity is achievedthrough unique self repulsion contacts.

2. Robust Body:

The body is made of unique glass reinforced polyester which has high arc andthermal withstand, resistance to tracking and mechanical strength.

3. Current limiting:

LM MCCB operate on current limiting principle. This ensures high breakingcapacity, faster fault clearances and low let through energy resulting in reducedelectrodynamic forces and thermal stresses which prevents damage to theequipment, switchgear and conductors.

When a prospective current flows through the MCCB, the contact design, throughreversal of current ensures immediate seperation of the contacts even beforetripping occurs. The early seperation of the contacts ensures low let throughenergy in the system, thus ensuring high life of the connected equipments.

4. High Insulation Voltage (Ui):

The entire range of LM MCCB have a high insulation voltage of 1000V. Thisenhances the reliability of the breakers by providing a higher resistance toflashovers under fault conditions.

6. Mechanism:

The complete range of LM MCCB are quick make quick break, independentmanual type with trip free features. LM MCCB can be mounted horizontallyor upside down at 180 degrees with load side up and line side down withthe busbar connection at respective sides in case of constraint intermination. The new door drive mechanism in this case ensures uniform ON /OFF / TRIP indications on the panel door.

7. Testing:

A ‘Push to trip’ button is provided on the front to test the MCCB mechanically.LM MCCB’s are also provided with a ‘test socket’ for testing at site. With the useof test kit the operation of the MCCB can be easily verified even when it is inservice and is mounted in the panel.

8. Protection Releases:

� Static Release:

Static trip release is more versatile and offer accurate & closer protection to theswitchgear downstream. The operating characterstics of the release areindependent of ambient temperature.

Continuous adjustable overload protection available from 50% to 100% of therated current.

This wide flexibility in settings takes care of future increase in load capacity ofan installation and ensures better planning at an optimum cost.

Continuous adjustable short circuit setting from 2 times to 10 times of the ratedcurrent.

Protection against Earthfault:

Earthfault protection (EFM) can be provided in LM MCCB by mounting an addon module directly at the load end of the MCCB. This feature is available for 3phase 3 wire circuit only and is widely used for motor application.

Continuously adjustable earthfault pickup settings from 15 to 80% of theIn current.

Continuously adjustable time delay from Instantaneous to 0.7 sec.

Manually resetable indicator for mounting on the panel board.

This module has CBCT in the housing itself and thus saves space and ensuresease in mounting.

9. Accessories:

The Accessories provided are field fittable and are common for static ormicroprocessor MCCB and thus offers flexibility to users for modification at laterdate to order as per site requirements.

� Alarm and Auxillary Switch:

These switches are conveniently fitted by removing the lid at the front face of theMCCB. These can be mounted at the site.

Alarm switches are designed to operate whenever the MCCB trips.

Auxillary switch operates with the opening and closing of the MCCB thusindicating the breaker contact status (‘OFF” / ‘ON’).

� Voltmetric Releases:

Shunt release can be easily mounted in the lid at the front face of the MCCB.This is a short time rated coil and hence is recommended to be used with auxillaryswitch to disconnect release after operation. This provides remote tripping ofthe MCCB.

All releases are common for equivalent AC and DC voltages and are availablein wide voltage range. The ratings available are 110-415V AC / 110V-220V DC,24-48V AC / DC.

Electro-magnetic type Undervoltage release with field fittable option is availablein Frame 2 & Frame 3 MCCB’s, whereas in Frame 1 factory fitted electronic typerelease is available. The purpose of this release is to trip the MCCB if the supplyvoltage drops to a value below prescribed voltage limit. The standard setting is60% of the rated voltage. However settings of 50%, 70%, 80% are available onrequest.

To prevent nuisance tripping due to momentary voltage dip, undervoltagerelease with a time delay of 1+0.20 sec is available. This is particularly useful forgenerator application.The voltage ratings available are 240 / 415V AC.

Combination of Accessories

Frame 1 & 2 - 160 / 250 A:

With shunt trip release, no other accessory can be provided, as 1 NO contactsof the auxillary switch to be wired in series with the shunt release coil.

Without shunt trip release any combination of 2 (NO or NC) auxillary switchescan be mounted.

Frame 3 - 400 / 630 / 800A:

Total combination of 3 auxillary / alarm switches (2 NO + 1NC, 1 NO + 2 NC)combination can be chosen.

However for use with Shunt release 1 NC contact of aux. Switch to be wired inseries with the shunt release coil.

Please note that only one voltmetric release can be fitted in Frame 2 andFrame 3 MCCB. In Frame size 1, both shunt trip and UV can be used. The UVrelease provided in Frame 1 is factory fitted.

Door Drives:

LM MCCB comes with all new feature packed, user friendly door drives. It hasan “OFF” position placed at 9 o’ clock and the “ON” position at 12 o’ clock. Thethird position “TRIP” is located between the “ON” and the “OFF” position.

The door drive is easy to mount and provides IP 54 protection.

The door drive takes care of the uniformity in the position of the handle on thepanel door when MCCB is mounted upside down. The operating handle ensuresthat irrespective of the mounting of MCCB, the quadrant of operation of thehandle remains same.

These door drives provide door interlock facility in the “ON” position. Besidesprovide padlocking facility to lock the MCCB in “OFF” position. Also availableon request is “ON” position padlock.

Backup Protection:

One of the operational requirements for a protective device is that its rated shortcircuit breaking capacity is either equal or greater than the prospective shortcircuit current at the point where it is installed.

Thus the upstream device must possess the necessary rated short circuit breakingcapacity. The upstream device must coordinate with the downstream device in amanner that will limit the energy and short circuit values to levels that thedownstream device can handle.

With LM, the unique self repulsion contact system limits the energy and currentvalues of prospective faults to extremely low values.This allows the use of lowbreaking capacity downstream devices while maintaining the overall systemprotection.

Motor Protection:

LM Curve X MCCB is exclusively used for motor protection. It offers a completeand reliable protection to LV motors. The basic principle of operation is that itallows the contactor which is always available in the motor feeder circuit to clearoverload faults, this reduces the strain on the MCCB contacts thereby enhancingthe life of the MCCB and provides for automatic resetting afterfault clearance.

Curve X MCCB trips for short circuit through opening of its own contacts thusprotecting the contactor and the motor from high current faults. Since contactoris a switching device and has more mechanical life, this combination increasesthe systems performance and provides higher life.

The Curve X MCCB’s comes with field fittable accessories. Manual reset optioncan be provided on request.

Features:

- Built in electronic overload sensing (50% to 100%) thus eliminating needfor external bimetal relay resulting in saving of cost,space and wiring.

- Built in single phasing and phase reversal protection thus eliminating needfor an external device.

It senses phase reversal and single phasing through static circuitry andopens up the motor feeder by activating the external contactor available inthe motor circuit.

These MCCB are available in three frame sizes from Ith 3.2 Amps to400 Amps and uses same accessories as for LM MCCB’s.

Selectivity:

LM range of MCCB are suited for category B applications. When two currentlimiting breakers of similar rating and similar settings are in series under shortcircuit conditions, both MCCB might trip for a downstream fault and cause lossof supply to healthy loads. To avoid this, a short time withstand current (Icw)capability is required by upstream breaker so that it can delay operation briefly.This feature is available in our Frame 3 size MCCB. Since normally higher ratingMCCB are used as an upstream device. LM MCCB can be used forcat-B application with restricted breaking capacity.
