Select a "favorite" drug or search for a drug to prescribe.

Click on the History Button to view/manage the patient’s current medication list.



Select a pharmacy for electronic prescriptions.

Review Prescription Coverage and Copay information and Payer/Therapeutic Alternatives.

Edit the prescription by selecting the appropriate section on the prescription pad.

BEST PRACTICES FOR WRITING ELECTRONIC PRESCRIPTIONS Medication

Medication Name, Strength and UOM will pre-populate from the OfficeEMR™ First Databank drug database. To create a non-codified medication all three fields are required to print the prescription.

Signetur

The Signetur fields express the patient’s instructions. Only patient instruction information should be included in these fields. There are three ways to create a Signetur/Patient Instructions for a prescription.

Option 1: Use the Sig Quantity, Dosage, Route, and Frequency fields

Option 2: Use the Sig Quantity, Dosage, Route, Frequency and Free form fields (shown below)

Option 3: Select the Free Form Text Only checkbox for a custom Signetur.

Click on the calculator for a dosage calculator.



Dispense

The dispense fields express the amount of the medication the pharmacist will dispense to the patient.

Click on the calculator to calculator the dispense quantity. Note: A sig quantity, sig frequency and days supply are required for this calculation.

Specify the number of allowed refills. If Refills is left blank Zero refills will be sent/printed for the prescription.

Select whether substitutions are allowed or not using the DAW (dispense as written) checkbox.

Use the Sample checkbox to indicate a sample was provided to the patient.

Use the History checkbox to indicate the prescription is a patient reported prescription.

Alerts and Comments

To send a note to the pharmacist use the Alert to Pharmacy text field.

For internal notes use the Internal Only text field.

Any items marked with an * will not be sent with the electronic prescription and are for internal use only.

Pharmacy



The Pharmacy screen displays any recently used pharmacies for the patient, pharmacies in the same zip code as the patient, office favorite pharmacies and lastly any used from the Pharmacy Search screen.

Click on the Search button to search for a pharmacy.



Pharmacy Search

Perform an OfficeEMR™ intelli-type pharmacy search using any of the following permutations:

Pharmacy Name, for example “CVS”

Pharmacy Address, for example “Peru St”

Pharmacy Zip Code, for example “46202”

Pharmacy Type, for example “Mail”

Pharmacy Name + Pharmacy Zip Code, for example “CVS 46202”

OfficeEMR will automatically add % around each piece of text entered into the search screen.

Select the State checkbox to only include pharmacies in your practice’s state.

Select the Local checkbox in include non-Surescripts pharmacies setup for your practice.

Select the Mail checkbox to always include Mail order pharmacies in the search results.

Single select the pharmacy to view the pharmacy details. Double-click a pharmacy to use for the prescription.
