For those on short courses (3 days or less), you’ll receive support

This accredited qualification is ideal for those already

working or preparing to work within industry wishing to

become an Emergency First Aider in the workplace for

the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid)

Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid)

Regulations (NI) 1982.

Topics covered include:

This accredited qualification is ideal for those already

working or preparing to work within industry wishing to

become a First Aider in the workplace for the purposes

FIRST AID

This accredited qualification provides theoretical and

practical training in emergency first aid techniques that

are specific to infants aged under 1, and children aged

from 1 year old to the onset of puberty. Learners

undertaking this qualification will be able to provide

support to the paediatric first aider to maintain the

welfare of infants and children.

Learners will become familiar with the role of the

paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react

appropriately to an emergency situation, such as a child or

an infant who is unresponsive, has an airway obstruction,

has breathing difficulties or is suffering from shock or

anaphylaxis.

The qualification is assessed via on-going oral and/or

written questioning and practical demonstration.

All successful students will be issued with an Emergency

Paediatric First Aid certificate.

FIRST AID

This accredited qualification provides theoretical and

practical training in first aid techniques that are specific

to infants aged under 1, and children aged from 1 year old

the EYFS states that ‘at least one person who has a

current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the

premises at all times when children are present. There

must be at least one person on outings who has a current

paediatric first aid certificate.’ The Level 3 Award in

Paediatric First Aid is recognised as a qualification which

fulfils this need.

Learners will become familiar with the role of the

paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react

appropriately to an emergency situation, such as a child or

an infant who is unresponsive, has an airway obstruction,

has breathing difficulties or is suffering from shock or

anaphylaxis. Topics also included are fractures,

dislocations, injuries to the head, neck, back, eyes, ears

or nose, poisoning, bites or stings, burns or scalds,

electric shock, minor injuries and chronic medical

conditions.

The qualification is assessed via on-going oral and/or

written questioning and practical demonstration. All

successful students will be issued with a Paediatric First

Aid certificate.

FOOD SAFETY

Anyone who is working with food has a responsibility to

safeguard the health of consumers who eat their food,

therefore training is crucial. It is essential for food

safety that all food handlers are aware of the hazards

and controls associated with the types of food they

produce. Every year, many people are made ill, and some

even die as a result of eating contaminated food. Food

businesses have a legal and moral obligation to ensure

they are not contributing to these statistics.

The Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (QCF) or

Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Retail (QCF) is

designed to give learners an understanding of the basic

principles of food safety in the catering or retail

environment. The qualification is aimed at anyone in the

catering or retail setting who works with food as part of

their working day, to give them a greater understanding

of food safety.

All successful learners will be issued with a certificate

and wallet-sized card detailing their qualification.

Assessment is through a one hour multiple-choice

examination

FIRE SAFETY

This accredited qualification is aimed at anyone involved

in the management of fire safety in any workplace. This

includes managers, supervisors, team leaders, fire

wardens (marshals) and staff working in any area where

there is a potential risk of fire, or anyone involved in the

management of fire safety in any workplace.

Subjects covered include hazards and risks, controlling

fire in the workplace, the principles and practice of fire

safety management at work and the role of the nominated

fire warden.

The Level 2 Award in Fire Safety (QCF) is accredited

and recognised internationally and has been developed to

protect customers, staff, brand reputation and profits.

Those gaining this qualification will know that fire safety

is the responsibility of everyone in the workplace and will

recognise the consequences of a fire in any premises.

CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

This accredited qualification meets the requirements of

anyone with a customer-facing role who deals with service

users or the general public. It is also relevant to those

who would like a better understanding of the prevention

of conflict, giving them more confidence in dealing with

situations as they arise.

Subjects covered by the conflict management

qualification include legislation, clear communication, pro-

active service delivery, situation assessment and

managing unrealistic expectations. There are a number of

benefits for businesses in entering employees for this

qualification, one of which is improved customer service

levels.

Following the completion of this award the learner will

know how to:

communicate to solve problems and reduce the potential

for conflict; identify the factors that influence human

responses in conflict situations; assess and reduce risks

in conflict situations; communicate effectively and de-

escalate conflict in emotive situations; use good practice

after conflict situations.

The Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching

and Learning in Schools aims to develop a detailed

knowledge, understanding and competence of how to

support children and young people. It focuses on

specialist support areas where learners can develop their

understanding of complex needs.

The Level 3 Diploma incorporates units from the Level 3

Award, building on them by adding competency and

performance based learning outcomes.

Learners are able to choose from a range of optional units

which they are able to tailor to their current role and

specialise their expertise.

Supervise whole class learning activities is a single unit

which makes up part of the Level 3 Certificate in Cover

Supervision. This unit is most commonly 'added on' to a

Level 3 Diploma for those who supervise whole class

learning.

It is not appropriate for volunteers to supervise whole

classes, therefore this qualification is restricted to

those who are employed.

The qualification covers the theoretical aspects of

supervising whole class learning activities and is

accompanied by a full day workshop which aims to equip

learners with the skills needed to ensure learning is

taking place.

Level 4 Advanced Support for Teaching and Learning

This single unit is intended for

those who are working or are

The Advanced Support for Teaching and Learning

course provides learners the opportunity to extend and

continue their professional development beyond Level 3

NVQ/QCF qualifications. Learners will develop their

knowledge and understanding of advanced level skills for

teaching assistants. Successful learners will be awarded a

City & Guilds Level 4 Award in Professional Recognition

(Learning and Development) and will be entitled to use the

post-nominal letters - Licentiateship of City & Guilds

Institute (LCGI) after their name.

By the end of the programme learners will:

Analyse professional practice, skills, values,

knowledge and understanding.

Understand how to plan and deliver learning activities

under the direction of a teacher, and advance learning

when working with different groups.

Understand how to develop and adapt resources to

suit learners’ needs

HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

The Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults)

is aimed at learners who are already working with adults

in a health and social care setting primarily under

supervision.

The Level 2 Diploma offers learners the opportunity to

develop knowledge and skills around nine mandatory units

which reflect key principles in care, such as the role of

the care worker, equality and inclusion, safeguarding and

health and safety. Learners are then able to choose from

a range of optional units which they are able to tailor to

their current role and specialist area e.g. dementia care,

learning disabilities or generic.

Portfolio of evidence, workplace observation.

The Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults)

is aimed at learners who are already working with adults

in a health and social care setting in a supervisory role. senior care assistant and support worker in residential settings,

domiciliary services, or day services

senior healthcare assistant and support worker in community and

primary care environments

senior support worker in supported living projects

community-based care assistant/support worker/key worker, including

in specialist areas, e.g. dementia, learning disabilities

The Level 3 Diploma offers learners the opportunity to

develop advanced knowledge and skills around nine

mandatory units which reflect key principles in care, such

as the role of the care worker, equality and inclusion,

safeguarding and health and safety. Learners are then

able to choose from a range of optional units which they

are able to tailor to their current role and specialist area

e.g. dementia care, learning disabilities or generic.

HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

Currently 700,000 people in the UK have dementia and

this figure is expected to double over the next few

decades. The Awards in Awareness of

Dementia/Certificates in Dementia Care will help to

improve health and care services supporting individuals

diagnosed with dementia.

The qualifications in awareness of dementia and dementia

care are aimed at occupational areas across all service

user groups and ages, working in statutory (including

NHS), private and voluntary agencies. This also includes

healthcare/care assistants, support/key workers, family

support workers and team leaders/first line supervisors.

Units studied include: dementia awareness; the person-

centred approach to the care and support of individuals

with dementia; understand the factors that can influence

communication and interaction with individuals who have

dementia; understand equality, diversity and inclusion in

dementia care

The Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young

People's Workforce guides and assesses development of

knowledge and skills relating to the children & young

people’s workforce and will provide progression to the

qualification confirms competence under supervision in

these areas covering the age range 0-19.

The Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young

People's Workforce is to guide and assess development

of knowledge and skills relating to Social Care and the

Learning Development and Support Services workforces.

This qualification confirms competence in these areas

where appropriate and serves as the required

qualification (for all new practitioners) for registration

and regulatory requirements in the sector.

There are 2 pathways to this qualification:

Units studied include: understand child and young person

development; understand how to safeguard the wellbeing

of children and young people; support children and young

people's health and safety; develop positive relationship

with children; young people and others involved in their

care; working together for the benefit of children and

Level 5 Leadership qualifications in a relevant area

of candidates who work or want to

people in a wide range of settings,

Language Therapist

Learners should:

sector must achieve a total of

400 hours in their work

placement throughout the

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training provides

an introduction to teaching for individuals who would like

to work or currently work within FE Colleges,

Independent Training Providers and/or Local Authorities.

Learners are required to gather knowledge about the role

and responsibilities of a teacher. During the course they

will be encouraged to develop skills which will enable them

to plan, deliver and evaluate basic teaching and learning

sessions.

Units cover: understanding roles, responsibilities and

The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training

prepares trainee teachers to teach in a wide range of

contexts. The qualification will meet the needs of a range

of teachers and trainee teachers who would like to gain a

qualification which focuses on practical teaching.

Learners are required to gather knowledge about the role

and responsibilities of a teacher. During the course they

will be encouraged to develop skills which will enable them

to plan, deliver and evaluate teaching and learning

sessions.

Units cover: understanding roles, responsibilities and

relationships in education and training; planning to meet

the needs of learners in education and training; delivering

education and training; assessing learners in education

and training; using resources for education and training

practices of assessment.

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational

Achievement is for people working in, or looking to enter

roles in assessment, and replaces the Assessor (A1)

qualifications. It provides people who carry out

assessment and roles in their organisation the

opportunity to develop and improve their practice as well

as achieving a professional qualification for the role.

Learners will understand the principles of assessment and

have the knowledge to develop and improve systems at

their centre.

Units studied include: understanding the principles and

practices of assessment; assess occupational competence

in the work environment; assess vocational skills,

knowledge and understanding

Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance

This qualification is available to

anyone 19+ working in: accredited

learning; non accredited learning

PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION AWARDS

The awards are offered in industrial, business and

professional fields. Successful learners will be awarded a

City & Guilds Award in Professional Recognition at the

appropriate level and will be entitled to use the relevant

post-nominal letters after their name. They will also be

invited to attend the City & Guilds graduation ceremony

where they will be entitled to wear the official hood,

gown and cap.

The Professional Recognition Awards are a vocational

route to higher level professional recognition. This can be

studied at Level 4, 5, 6 and 7.
