Fabulous food and a warm atmosphere are a recipe for an enchanted evening. That’s the experience that Trattoria Fratelli has been creating for twenty years. Many years have passed since the building that is now Trattoria Fratelli’s was built in the late 1800’s. The Fifth Avenue Hotel had furnished rooms to rent. Charles Achenbach had a restuarant in the fifties. Connie’s Place served food till the early seventies. Buck and Cookies Bar preceded The Tap Room established in 1980. In 1996, Greg and Tony Allwein would renovate the 502 East Lehman Street property. A wood-fired brick oven was added to make pizzas and other Italian food. Trattoria Fratelli developed a reputation for serving fine food and became a favorite for those near and far. In 2008 Kevin Brown purchased the business from the Allweins. With wife Karen and their combined skills, they teamed up to continue the tradition of fine food. In 2011 they purchased the building, and with the help of twenty-five employees, they aim to serve you some of the most delicious food and drinks. Years ago, Kevin and Karen Brown had a connection to the restaurant they now own. When Karen was fifteen and lived a short distance from the Tap Room, she was employed as a bus girl. During that time Kevin grew up in the Pottstown area. His family had moved to many different locations as they were involved in the hotel and restaurant industry. He was exposed to fine food and developed an interest in the art of cooking. Kevin secured a position in the Chef ’s Apprenticeship Program at the Hotel Hershey and became a certified cook. He did two externships at the Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida. He moved to Dallas, Texas where he worked as a Sous Chef at the Fairmount Hotel for three years and then came back to Pennsylvania. The Hotel Hershey called and hired Kevin as the Garde-manger Chef. Kevin and Karen met while she was working as a waitress at the hotel while going to college. They were married in 1988. He then accepted a

position at the Hershey Country Club as Sous Chef and then Executive Chef. The Executive Chef position at the Hershey Country Club gave Kevin seventeen years to orchestrate the activities in a kitchen. He then went on to Elizabethtown College as Executive Chef. Karen was using her skills as a sensory panelist for the Hershey Foods Company while caring for the family. At Trattoria Fratelli all the items on the menu are created from fresh seasonal ingredients, some grown specifically for the restaurant at Garden Meadow Farms and the restaurant’s herb garden. You won’t find the recipes online or in a book as they are exclusive inspired dishes created by Kevin to be enjoyed by the guests. Karen’s prior experience working in the sensory field is instrumental in selecting wines for their exclusively Italian wine list. The menu and artwork on the walls are changed quarterly; on display now, is Fred W. Swarr. Trattoria Fratelli offers catering pickups for parties with various dishes and salads to choose from. You can now make reservations for parties of eight or more on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. They offer weekday private lunches. Private holiday dinners on Sunday and Monday. Gift cards are available. Their New Year’s Eve Dinner, with prix fixe menu, is an annual favorite! For now Kevin and Karen are custodians of this property.
