PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: SEPTEMBER 19, 2013
Dear Parents/Guardians: Students are in their classes and routines are well underway to our adventurous year! Many thanks to our school community of students, parents and staff as we support each other with all the changes of this unique school year. Our Richmond site is working well for everyone! It is a beautiful clean, bright and airy building that the district and school staff prepared and setup very well for the students! Busses are now running smoothly and we thank you all for your comments and suggestions to help improve the transportation system, while keeping the safety of student upmost in the forefront. Choir, Strings and Cross Country running have all started up. These activities are all happening during the school day over the lunch hour, so there are no excuses for missing practices! Encouraging and supporting your students to get involved in extra activities is important. Many life long learning lessons continue to be learned during these activities. Breakfast club continues at our Richmond Road site, many thanks to the volunteers. Once the students arrive off the buses, or get dropped off at school, the breakfast club program opens it’s doors at 8:25 a.m. with toast, yogurt and fresh fruit – a healthy start to the day for those who missed breakfast at home! We are looking forward to seeing many of you tonight at our Meet the Teacher & Open House. We miss seeing so many of our parents each day but hope this event will bring you in to see our wonderful building and meet your child’s teachers! The September Parent Meeting was attended by a small but enthusiastic group. Every parent in the school is automatically a member. You are all welcome and encouraged to attend as many meetings or events as possible. It is a great parent community here at Quadra and we know you will enjoy this connection. At the end of September the Quadra students will celebrate and honour Terry Fox with our annual pledge drive and run. Information is coming out this week. October will be quickly upon us and individual school photos are scheduled for Thursday, October 3rd. Ordering occurs after the photos, but basic information will come home next week. We continue to encourage kind and appropriate behaviour so Quadra Elementary is a safe and caring school for all. Your help and support with these goals is appreciated. My door is always open and I welcome your input as we work together to support our next generation of leaders.
Sincerely, MarilynCampbell

Quadra Elementary School Meal Program
“We believe a good lunch provides students with the nutritional energy to excel at learning”.
At Quadra Elementary we provide a School Meal Program for families who would like their children to have a hot lunch. If you
wish your child to participate in the School Meal Program
you can pick up the forms and the menu for each month
in the office
CommunityLINK Programs help fund the School Meal Program, but we need your contributions to help keep the program
available for all students at our school.
Your child’s lunch costs the School District $3.97 per day
and includes 1/3 of their daily Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI)
No child should go hungry at lunch and every family is encouraged to support the program with whatever amount is possible.
Quadra Choir is open to students in
grades 3, 4, and 5. We participate in
assemblies, community concerts and,
this year, the Great Victoria Performing
Arts festival. The choir meets on Wednesdays at lunch recess. If your child
loves to sing or would like to learn how to sing better, consider joining
choir. There is still time to join. Just see Mrs. Pollet for a yellow permission
sheet. Students who showed up to our first rehearsal last week are reminded to
bring their yellow sheets back.
Thank you, Emily Pollet, Music Specialist

THE WHEELS ON THE BUS
GO ‘ROUND AND ‘ROUND!
After a few “start-up glitches” our bussing
program seems to be working smoothly. Many
thanks to parents and guardians for their
cooperation and to the PAC for giving us some
valuable suggestions to refine our system.
To ensure our students’ safety, please follow the
bus safety guidelines as posted at the Quadra site:
1. Parents/Guardians are to wait for the students by the coloured signs in the
fenced area.
2. Avoid walking between buses.
3. Use crosswalks.
4. Respect neighbours’ driveways.
Quadra staff provides supervision at
the Quadra site in the morning from
8:05 to 8:20 a.m. and again after
school from 3:10 to 3:25 p.m. PLEASE
ENSURE YOUR CHILDREN ARE PICKED
UP BY 3:25.
Parents may alter their children’s
bussing arrangements but please be
sure to phone our office with the
changes in plenty of time for that
information to be passed on to the
classroom teacher.
Safety message from our Crossing Guards at Quadra
construction site
Please walk to the corner to cross Quadra Street when picking up your
student(s). The Crossing Guards are there to help keep students and
parents safe.

Coats for Kids Collection
The school is collecting coats size 7/8, 10, 12 and 14 to help
support families in need. Please bring your clean, gently
used coats to the drop off in the front foyer. Thank you
for your support.
Big Thanks to our Community Supporters
Quadra School has always had a great community that surrounds it
and supports it in many different ways. Already we have had a
donation of two violins that go into a pool to support our strings
students. These instruments are made available so all Grade Five
students have the opportunity, regardless of financial circumstances, to participate in learning to
play a string instrument. Many thanks go out to the members of the Celtic Band Cookeilidh and
the family of Viola Warren who made the donation of two violins possible.
Also many thanks go out to Harbourside Rotary Club! We have been
successful in receiving a grant of $10,000. This grant will go towards a
technology project to upgrade all the classrooms in our “HOME” site. This
will move us from the 20th
century to the 21st century with learning tools that
will support our future generations. The project total goal is $45,000. The $10,000 plus the
$5000 in our budget, puts us 1/3 of the way there!
