Director’s Message

Dear Parents, Students & Community Members,

The first quintile here at QSI International School of Malta has been a huge success. Our

students have been busy learning inside our classrooms and even outside of our class-

rooms! From our 3 and 4 year old Students to our Secondary IV Students, we know that

success is the sum of many individual efforts. We are proud of the progress we have made

so far, the community participation we have experienced, and we know that this is just the

beginning!

QSI Malta Events

Curriculum Night at the start of the year had a fantastic turnout of parents and family mem-

bers! Our teachers had the opportunity to discuss what was in store for students this year as

well as preview the mathematics curriculum that was newly adopted. Seeing the partnership

between school and home strengthen means great things for our students!

After so much hard work in these first months of school we thought that we had to celebrate

with a well deserved break and so we had our first Movie Night! It was great fun to stay

after school and enjoy “Despicable Me” while munching on popcorn and sipping drinks! Our

students and parents were packed in front of the big screen for a hilarious and entertaining show.

In our continued effort to remind our students that reading can happen anywhere with anyone, our Come-Read-To-A-Child event

kicked-off with a bang. Parents and community members joined us on a sunny morning to sit and enjoy a book anywhere on the

school campus. From picnic blankets and pillows to camping chairs and benches our students got ‘cozy’ with a good book and a

great reader.

Huge thanks go to the Student Council, Parent Support Group, Volunteers and Staff that made such a great success possible!

Thanks again to all who helped and participated!

After-School Activities

Afterschool activities have been an enormous hit with both students and teachers alike! From strategising in Chess Club to impro-

vising in Drama Club (and even discovering the art within Fret Work), our students are discovering new ways of interacting with

their teachers and peers! Stay tuned for additional offerings at the start of Term 2!

Finally, our Secondary Students have been prepping and planning for their futures in fantastic ways. This quintile the push has

been on college applications, SAT testing, and IELTS exams. Without fail, our students have shown their skills in prior planning,

dedication, and perseverance that will surely pay-off in the months to come—Keep up the good work you make us all proud!

All in all, we have started off on the right foot this year. From quality instruction to a school where learning is fun, it has been a

pleasure thus far. Know that we will humbly continue to serve our students and the International Community of Malta in the most

excellent way.

Sincerely

Mr. Justin H. Fischer

Our student of the month

for October is Shahad

Alamin. Shahad is a won-

derful classmate and stu-

dent. Although she is

neat and careful with all of

her class work, she is will-

ing to take chances and

not afraid to make mis-

takes! She is a friend to

all students and a joy to

have in class!

We have a great time in our after-school activity clubs! During our Arts-and-Crafts club, we are busy making our own flowerpots. We never knew that you could reuse old tin cans to make beautiful AND functional pieces of art!

We know that finding success with new mathe-matical processes has a lot to do with practicing the ones we know already! Our math centers help us to keep our skills sharp while we work with our peers!

We continue to practice our math skills while learning the importance of polite social interac-tion. Our fun with Quiz-Quiz-Trade might make a lot of noise, but we sure do get practice with questioning and answering appropriately! We have a great time in our after-school activity clubs! Crafts club, we are busy making our own flowerpots. We never knew that you could reuse old tin cans to make beautiful AND functional pieces of art!

We have truly enjoyed our unit on Canada’s people and places. We have learned a LOT about the Inuit people and how they made art, practiced religion, and even hunted and fished. We are now excited to be recreating ‘landforms’ in Canada—from fjords to isth-mus’, we know our stuff!

Earth Science

We finished our first EO

by studying rocket sci-

ence. It is based on the

action-reaction principle.

It does not matter if the

action is escaping gases

from a combustion, pres-

sured air from a balloon

or water in a bottle, the

reaction makes our ob-

jects fly in the sky!

Our Solar System and the Universe

QSI school yard felt like Cape Canaveral whilst launching our water

rockets during the competition! In our new EO2, “Our Solar System

and the Universe” we studied how astronomers like Ptolemy, Coper-

nicus, Galileo and Kepler developed their models of the Solar sys-

tem. We are creating a scaled model for distances and sizes.

Physical Science

Our EO2 “Atomic struc-

ture and the periodic ta-

ble” dives deep into the

atom and shows us that it

is not indivisible but made

of: the protons, neutrons

and electrons.

We did like Mendeleev

and organized all the ele-

ments using a periodic

table!

Environmental Studies

We finished EO2 by working on the different Earth cycles. We

understood that water is never lost on Earth, but we can only

drink the 0.5% of it. . We studied the carbon and nitrogen cycle.

We created a board game to fully understand all cycles.

Algebra

Using the same algebraic concepts we mastered in EO1, we

are now learning about inequalities in EO2. If something is

smaller than something else, its negative is actually larger!

So do not forget to reverse the symbol when multiplying or di-

viding by a negative number.

Curriculum Night

Quality Schools International Malta held its annual Curriculum Night for parents

and students on Wednesday 12 September. I together with all the teaching staff

would like to thank everyone for their attendance and collaboration. I would also

like to thank our Student Council members for their time and dedication, a job

well done indeed.

Our primary reason for holding a ‘Curriculum Night,’ was for parents to get first-

hand information regarding the curricula covered in each child’s age level and

we did achieve our goal as all the parents were satisfied and happy.

Each classroom teacher discussed the curriculum with the parents which en-

abled them to get a better understanding of what is happening in their children’s

school life.

Once again we would like to thank you for your participation in this event, we

would also like to invite parents to fell free to send us their feedback on the out-

come.
