QPC Company History ▪ 1999: QPC was founded in San Clemente, California in May 1999 by Regina Schroeder & Henning Kuehne. They had

a copper cable assembly business previously, and saw an increasing demand for fiber optic products.

▪ 1999 – 2009: The company’s initial focus was on Datacom / Telecom products (Simplex / duplex fiber optic patch cords, pre-loaded rack mount / wall mount hardware, optical splitters and wave division multiplexers). QPC’s customer base was datacenter operators, cable television companies, and long haul data carriers. At this time, QPC had a small percentage (~15%) of the business in harsh environment connectivity at this time and also operated an installation division that provided on-site, turnkey network installation (fiber optic and structured cabling) for customers. This was ~30% of the business.

▪ 2009 – 2013: With global demand increasing rapidly for fiber optic products, QPC saw many Asian manufacturers entering the Datacom / Telecom product space. Knowing that the company could not compete on price, QPC shifted focus to its harsh environment product offering as well as larger installation projects. By 2013, 75% of QPC’s business was harsh environment connectivity and 25% was installation.

▪ 2013 – Present: QPC continued to grow its harsh environment business. In mid-2015, QPC decided to exit the installation space completely – to focus 100% of its efforts on its core business. QPC was acquired by Steve Wilkes and David Olson (private investor) in March 2016. QPC’s future plans are to continue growing organically through product innovation.

Custom Connectors – Example Qmini 90 Quick Connect

▪ One of QPC’s pro-audio customers needed a solution for their audio consoles.

▪ The console has two “engines” and the user has to install a permanent bridge between them for redundancy – the receptacles are 12” apart.

▪ The issue is that the console’s shipping case cannot be closed with a Qmini connected, meaning the bridge must be re-connected every time the console is set up.

▪ QPC added a 90 degree backshell to the Qmini to solve this problem.

▪ The first order was for 8 assemblies, we did not charge NRE and completed the project in about 6 weeks!


Custom Connectors – Example 14Ch Hybrid Fracking Connector

▪ One of QPC’s Oil & Gas customers approached us with a need for a rugged 14Ch Hybrid Connector Plug and Receptacle with 6 x Fiber Termini + 8 x 12AWG Power Contacts.

▪ The application was part of the control system for a Hydraulic Fracking unit.

▪ The initial need was for a single plug and receptacle for the end customer’s trial. Future potential could be up to 1,000 sets.

▪ QPC used our existing E-Link platform as a starting point. We designed a custom insert and a new backshell to accommodate the nearly 1” OD cable.

▪ We completed the design effort in ~2 weeks, completed prototypes in ~1 week, and shipped the order in ~3 weeks = 6 weeks total with no NRE charges!


Custom Connectors – Example 6Ch Hybrid Automation Connector

▪ QPC was approached by a customer in need of a custom 6 Channel “blind mate” connector used in a machine vision application with 4 x Fiber Optic Expanded Beam Channels + 2 x 16 AWG Power Contacts.

▪ The connector needed to mate in a similar fashion to an ARINC connector, where the mating mechanism was external to the connector.

▪ QPC designed a custom rectangular shell (plug and receptacle), custom insert, and two cable backshell. We charged an NRE charge in this case due to the amount of custom work.

▪ QPC booked the first order 2 plugs + 2 receptacles in mid-October 2014, and we shipped complete in time for a customer demo in mid-December 2014. Total time for design, prototype, and production parts ~8 Weeks.
