Firstly a song had to be chosen After much discussion and input from

everyone we decided that the band that could give us the most scope would be Queens of the Stone Age

We then listened to a few songs then as soon as we heard “A Song for the Dead” we all immediately agreed that it would be suitable and instantly conjured ideas

After choosing the song we decided that we would go home and listen to it individually and see what ideas we came up with

After doing so we collaborated and shared ideas

Once we met up again it became clear that we where all thinking along the same lines

The song has a strong dark feeling We decided to play on this with the use of a

forest and dead people in some way Another key feature of the music is the

introduction which lasts 40 seconds The pulsating feel could be expressed

visually Also the strong percussive elements should

be exploited with shots of the drum player

After deciding on the feel and some initial shots

We decided a narrative would be needed This would be combined with band shots The narrative would follow a couple being

chased by a mysterious group of zombie type characters

Queens Of The Stone Age are an American rock band from Palm Desert, California. They formed in 1997 under the name of ‘Gamma Ray’ by Josh Homme, after the break up of his previous band ‘Kyuss’. They then had to change there name of Gamma ray after a German rock band also called ‘Gamma Ray’ were threatening to sue. Queens of the stone age developed a style of riff-oriented, heavy music which Josh described as robot rock, saying that he “wanted to create a heavy sound based on a solid jam, and just pound it into you head”.

The bands first album that was released was self titled in 1998, this album wasn’t very popular. However, in a September, 2008 issue of NME Magazine, Josh Homme stated that he was going to remaster the 1998 self titled album for a November 2008 release. Since, the release date has been pushed back to November 2009.

‘Rated R’ it was released in 2000, this album was there breakthrough album, which reached high positions on charts worldwide. The album garnered positive reviews and received a lot more attention than their debut, despite the fact that the lyrics to "Feel Good Hit of the Summer" were deemed by mega-retailer Wal-Mart to promote drug use, almost causing the record to get pulled from store shelves.

Songs for the Deaf is the third studio album. Released in 2002, the album features Foo Fighters and Nirvana member Dave Grohl as a guest drummer. Like their other albums, Songs for the Deaf has a large number of guest musicians, a signature of the band's releases. Following the breakthrough Rated R, this album is widely regarded as Queens of the Stone Age's best work, garnering near-universal acclaim from critics, whilst earning the band's first gold record certification in the U.S., having sold 986,000 copies in the country. Songs for the Deaf is loosely considered as a concept album, taking the listener on a drive from Mojave Desert to Los Angeles the while tuning into radio stations from towns on the way such as Banning and Chino Hills, California.

Lullabies to Paralyze is the fourth studio album, and was released on March 21, 2005. Debuting at number 5 on the Billboard chart, the album sold 97,000 copies in America during its first week of release, eventually topping over 342,000 copies as of March, 2007 according to Nielsen Soundscan. The album has been certified gold in the UK, where it has sold over 100,000 units. It is also the band's first album to be released after Nick Oliveri (bassist) was fired from the band.

Popular songs off this album are Little Sister and In My Head.

Era Vulgaris is the fifth full length studio album. The album was completed in early April 2007 and released on June 8, 2007 in some countries, June 11, 2007 in the United Kingdom and June 12, 2007 in the United States. The tracks "Sick, Sick, Sick" (which contained the vocals from The Strokes front man, Julian Casablancas) and "3's & 7's" were released as singles in early June, with a third single "Make It wit Chu" released around Halloween of 2007.The album debuted at number fourteen on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts selling 52,000 copies in its first week, which was a decline in comparison to the previous album, which opened at number 5 with 91,000 copies sold in its debut week. In other countries it has reached much loftier debut positions, mostly in the top ten, such as number five in Canada where it sold approximately 10,000 copies in its opening week.

Costumes

The idea for the music video is to go with the horror genre and to create a chase scene. Within the chase scene we are going to have zombies and two people being chased. The zombies will have ripped and old looking clothes which we will cover in fake blood and mud. They will also have a lot of face paint on and we will style their hairs to make them look dead. As for the two people being chased, we have decided to make them look gradually worse throughout the video. We will do this by ripping their clothes more and more at each shot and covering them in mud and fake blood.

LocationsWe have decided to film our music video in a forest. Preferably we would like it to be dark or at dusk and for the forest to be very dense and for the spot we are filming in to be helped by the amount of trees and how shaded it is. We want it to look as realistic as possible and will be trying to take as many lights as possible to create a good effect and to help filming conditions and lighting.

Props

As well as having a narrative in our music video we are also going to feature a band and a performance aspect. So for the performance we will need instruments which will include; a microphone, a drum kit, a bass guitar, and two electric guitars.

We will also be using a lot of lighting, such as building lights which will be donated by Burridge building company.

At the beginning of the video we are going to have a car breaking down so the car will be another prop.

Our video will be half performance based, and will contain a

performance that will link with the setting of our storyline.

The performance will take place in the woods at night, the same as the narrative.

The band will be using proper gear, drums, guitars, microphones.

We will use heavy lighting on the band so that they are well illuminated against a dark background.

We will continue to flick between the main storyline and the performance, we will also make sure we edit in time to the music to create the best effect possible.

We will also intertwine characters form the storyline into the performance, to give the impression all the action of the story is happening around them.

We will be able to use lots of different camera shots on the song as the song we have chosen gives us many opportunities to show off our amazing camera work.

Microphone shot- placing the camera where the microphone would be and film the mouth singing.

Forest Shot- Film forest from the side whilst Emily is running away from loads of zombies.

Speed Up- Speed up the song to twice as fast, so the band play in time with that, then during editing slow it down to normal speed so it looks slightly out of time.

Camera Below- Place the camera below on a low angle shot and have people running over.
