The Complex oversees several centers in Gaza: a- Kindergartens A and B in the headquarters at Jourel A1 Shams wh~ch has 750 children, 18 classcs and 20 teachers. b- A1 lslah kindergarten at A1 Shujai'a which has 560 children, 18 teachcrs and 16 classes. c- Al Tawfik kindergarten at A1 Shagha'f which has 190 children, 6 teachers and 5 classes. d- Al Mashahra kindergarten at A1 Toffah district which has 100 children, 4 tcachcrs and 3 classes.

'The educational committee at the Complex puts together the children's curricula which focuses on Quran, Mohamed's biography and Islamic anthems. Everyone has testified that the children of the Complex arc cxccllent students. The same committee also selects, interviews and hires teachers, provides continuous education to them through Islamic sminars.

3- The Sports Club: The youths brought bwk some sports activities such as table tennis and Karate at the club's headquarters at Jouret Al Shams. 4- Musl~m women's rehabilitation center: At the Complex branch - Al Tslah - A1 Shujai'a, which teaches knitting and weaving to some 96 g~rls who are also cducated in Quran, Mohamed's biography and Sunnah. The girls' production is sold at the annual exhibit and griaduates from the knitting courses are awarded certificatcs and prizes.

5- l'hc orphan sponsorships committee:

In collaboration with the Islamic: Solidarity Committee of Kuwait, this committee sponsors some orphans hy Iilllng out sponsorship forms then scnding them to the Solidarity Committee to be sponsored. The Committee sends the orphans' stipends to them in ordcr to enable them face the difficulties of life without a father. The Palestine and Lebanon Relief Fund and the Orphan Sponsor Committee in Britain have also bcen contacted and some orphan forms have been forwarded to them for sponsorships.

6- The Permanent Tslainic hook and garb exhibit: in the Complex branch at A1 Shujai'a where Islamic books, casscttcs and clothes are sold to the public at reduced prices.

7- The transportation department: A member of the administrative board oversees this department which employs 7 brothers to drive seven vehicles.

Activities which havc becn frozcn:

The following activities have been banncd by thc lsracli authorities due to their impact on building the comprehensive Islamic character:

1) The Zakal Committee:

The Committee performed its duties well. It used to contact merchants, collect their Zakat and dispcnsc it to the needy and the poor. The Israeli authorities contacted the management of the Complex and ordered it to stop collecting Zakat money. a matter which roused the ire in the heark of people, particularly those poor and necdy.

2) The medical clinic: at the Complex' headquarters which used tu provide medical care and medicine to the citizens with nominal fees. The clinic expanded lo include a matcrnal ward which employed a Muslim female doctor. Scores of patients frequented the clinic but the Israeli authorilies ordered it closed.

As for the clinic branch in Khan Younis, the lsraeli Authorities did not suffice by closing it, but it arrested the brothers in charge of thc Khan Younis branch, submitted lists of charges against them to try them in front on Israeli military courts, accusing them of providing services without a permit.

3) 'The summer school: The educational committee used to hold a very popular summer school every year for the students and the management of the Complex sought to open an elementary school in Al Shujai'a but the ministry of education did not approve the request, unfortunately.

As for the activity that ceased due to the Intifada, they are:

I ) The Islamic theater: which was gradually repla~ing the c o q t secular music and theater bands. The Islamic music was very popular specially in weddings and festivals as it provided a clean alternative entertainment to the Palestinian population. These bands used tu tour all of Palestine tu provide their Islamic entertainment its activities ceased due lo the circurnstanccs of the Intifada.

2) The Islamic blood bank: The Islamic Complcx had a pioneering role in creating and Islamic blood bank which saved familics of thc injured the trouble of traveling from one hospital to another looking for fresh blood for their loved ones. The health committee at the Complex played a large role in organizing charts with names, addresses and blood types of Muslim youths to o r g m i ~ e the process of donating blood. At the beginning of the Intifad& the Muslim youths rushed to the hospitals to donate blood to the wounded which encouraged the Palestinian public in general to follow their suit virtually eliminating this serious shortage.

Future aspirations:

It is not too much for God the Almighty.

Obstacles and hindrances:

The largest obstacle in the face of achieving these goals is the lack of money. The fact that most of ihe members of the administrative body have private uccupations adds to this burden. If a number of them start working full time, this would be more useful and thc opportunity to develop the Complex would resume.
